A Highland County man who has previous convictions on unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and aggravated vehicular homicide pleaded guilty Wednesday to a bill of information on a charge of endangering children.

In Advisory Opinion 2011-07, the Commission determined that a public employee’s spouse can accompany the employee on work-related travel, provided that there is no additional cost to the public agency. The employee or his spouse must pay transportation, meal, and personal expenses for the spouse’s travel, and any extra costs incurred in connection with the spouse’s travel.

On Wednesday, July 27 at 1:42 am., a Hillsboro police officer executed a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of South East Street. The vehicle had run a red light and also had a flat tire, causing sparks to fly from the roadway. The officer called for a wrecker to tow the vehicle as it was unsafe.

Former Trumbull County Engineer David DeChristofaro pleaded guilty to Ethics Law violations this week in the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas. DeChristofaro was convicted of one fifth-degree felony theft count and one first-degree misdemeanor count of conflict of interest.

After holding steady for two months, Highland County's unemployment rate rose to 13.4 percent during the month of June.
  Ohio's jobless rate rose from 8.6 percent to 8.8 percent in June, and Highland County saw a jump from 12.8 percent in May to 13.4 percent in June, according to numbers released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The local unemployment rate had been at 12.8 percent in April, as well.

U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) had a chance to meet with Tessa Pinkerton, one of only two children chosen nationally to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns yesterday morning as part of the Professional Landcare Networks’ “Renewal and Remembrance” annual beautification project in Washington, D.C.

Ohio State Rep. Jarrod Martin, R-Beavercreek, is facing charges after being cited for alleged drunken driving, WHIO TV in Dayton reports.

A jury in Highland County Common Pleas Court deliberated approximately half an hour Monday before returning a not guilty verdict for a Middletown man charged with disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile.
  Harold Birch had been indicted on the fifth-degree felony charge in March. The state alleged that on Dec. 12, 2010 he had sent six "obscene" photos of a former girlfriend to the woman's 17-year-old daughter.

Gov. John R. Kasich will convene the 2011 Board of Apportioning Persons on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. in the Senate Finance Hearing Room in the Ohio Statehouse.
