Hillsboro man charged with felony assault on officer

On Wednesday, July 27 at 1:42 am., a Hillsboro police officer executed a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of South East Street. The vehicle had run a red light and also had a flat tire, causing sparks to fly from the roadway. The officer called for a wrecker to tow the vehicle as it was unsafe.
The officer instructed all occupants to exit the vehicle. The driver refused several requests to exit and was placed under arrest. The driver physically resisted both officers and had to be forcibly handcuffed and taken to the rear of a cruiser where he continued to physically resist being taken in the cruiser. At one point, he kicked both officers.
The driver was identified as Kenneth Mullis, 23, of Hillsboro, who was taken to the Highland County Justice Center.
Mullis was charged with two counts of felony assault on an officer, one count of resisting arrest and traffic charges of failure to obey a traffic control device as well as unsafe vehicle.[[In-content Ad]]
