The rainy weather will not dampen the spirits, or cancel the ceremonies, at KAMP Dovetail Monday, when kampers past and present will kick off a week in the sun, and celebrate 30 years of Kids And Motivated People.
  SATH (Supplemental Assistance to the Handicapped) Executive Director Linda Allen said that ceremonies are still on schedule to begin at 7 p.m. at Rocky Fork Lake, when state and local elected officials, and current and former kampers will celebrate the 30 years the kamp has been proving children with special needs the opportunity to participate in summertime activities, such as camping, fishing, horseback riding and swimming.

Gov. John R. Kasich has announced that an agreement has been reached with Penn National Gaming, Inc., in which Penn would pay Ohio $110 million over 10 years, and Ohio’s Commercial Activity Tax would be applied to Penn’s wagers minus payouts, instead of on wagers only.

By a unanimous motion the Highland County Republican Central Committee appointed Anneka Collins as Highland County Prosecuting Attorney Wednesday evening. 

Collins had been the assistant prosecutor to Highland County Prosecutor Jim Grandey, who is also a central committee member, for five years. Grandey's retirement was effective May 31.
"I am excited," Collins told The Highland County Press after it was announced she had been appointed. "I am looking forward to this and I will continue to work hard. I am passionate about this."

Highland County Special Olympics has selected 23 athletes to represent the organization at the 2011 Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games. Athletes from Lynchburg-Clay Schools and Hills & Dales Training Center will represent Highland County.

Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink and former Hillsboro Mayoral candidate Terry Mikkelsen exchanged words during a Hillsboro City Council meeting Monday when Mikkelsen asked for an update on the state of the EMS contracts with area townships.
 Mikkelsen asked if the June 30 deadline set by Hillsboro Safety Service Director Ralph Holt was still in effect.
