Fling Barn welcomes Matt O'Ree Band July 15

Award-winning blues-rocker Matt O'Ree will bring his high-energy, high-voltage band to the Fling Barn this week in a rare Friday night concert.
Dr. Bill Fling, owner of The Barn, located just south of Hillsboro at 8205 W. Berrysville Road, invites the community to see and hear this entertainer who's won two recent Asbury Music Awards for best blues band and best guitarist.
"This is a little different in that it's a Friday night show instead of our traditional Saturday concert," Fling said during a weekend interview at The Barn. "We had the opportunity to schedule Matt and really wanted to bring this band to the Barn."
Tickets ($5 per person) will be available at the door or you can call (937) 393-8200 or 393-2500 for more information. The bar opens at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m. Slow & Low will be serving its famous barbecue as well, beginning at 7 p.m.
The New Jersey-based Matt O'Ree Band (formerly the Blues Hounds) has been playing venues in Kentucky and Ohio this month and had an opening on Friday, July 15. The band, which was formed in the early 1990s, plays a mixture of blues, Southern rock and hard rock. The band's sound has been compared to a blend of industry legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Rory Gallagher.
In 2006, O'Ree won the "Guitarmaggedon King of the Blues Award at the House of Blues in Chicago, with B.B. King in attendance. The competition is held in King's honor.
According to his website, O'Ree, 39, has been cranking out the blues-rock since he was an early teen.
"With all the trappings of a genuine guitar hero, he plays with fire in his fingers and blues in his soul. At age 13, he sunk his roots in the blues – Albert King, Howlin' Wolf, to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. After establishing a good foundation, at age 15, he played in various bands, honing his skills through time and pure dedication.
"Matt went on to study as a music major in college as well as start his own teachings with guitar students. While working as an intern at a recording studio, he began collaborating with various musicians trying to bring his idea to life. It was at this stage in his career that he found the right blend of people to create the band. In 1997, Matt began writing and recording material that evolved into his debut CD, '88 Miles.' It was released in 1998 and gained national reviews and airplay, pushing the band to a higher level which included opening shows for national recording artists like Kansas, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, Gretchen Wilson and others."
In addition to "88 Miles," O'Ree has released three follow-up CDs: "Chalk it Up," "Shelf Life," and a "Live" CD.
Band members include: Eric Safka on keyboards, Scott Bennert on bass guitar, and John Hummel on drums.
