    The 1984 SCOL football season was about to begin, and there was no clear-cut favorite. Any one of five schools could win the coveted gold football, or, at least, the league championship. Circleville, Hillsboro, Wilmington, Washington C.H. and Miami Trace all appeared to have a legitimate shot. McClain and Madison-Plains, most people thought, would slug it out for the bottom two rungs on the league ladder.

  • Lady Tigers win in extra innings, again
    The McClain Lady Tigers, again, won a game Monday night in dramatic fashion. Sophomore Morgan Dettwiller drove in fellow sophomore Cierra Landrum to end the game in the bottom of the ninth, for the Lady Tigers' second nine-inning win of the season. MHS won the game 5-4.

    In what Whiteoak head coach Chris Veidt described as a great baseball game, the Wildcats and Fayetteville Rockets battled in a game where a single run was scored. The Rockets were the team that scored the run, defeating WHS, 1-0 at Whiteoak High School, Tuesday.

    The hot start by the Fairfield Lady Lions was turned up to an even higher level Tuesday as junior pitcher Lauren Larrick pitched a no-hitter against the North Adams Lady Green Devils. Not only did Larrick hold NA hitless on the day, but FHS continued to swing hot bats, collecting a season-high 19 hits, six for extra bases, en route to a 16-1 victory over NA at Fairfield High School, though FHS was the away team due to field conditions at North Adams.
