    The injury to Miami Trace’s all-league player Scott Grooms’ knee turned out to be strained tendons, and he would be out of action for at least a month. The Panthers did not have a great deal of depth, and this would be a major blow to their chances of winning the league title.

The Southern State Community College men’s soccer team traveled Sept. 17 to Grand Rapids, Mich., and defeated Kuyper College 3-0. The game — the first-ever meeting between Southern State and Kuyper — was played on the new turf field in Davenport University’s new soccer stadium.
