CHILLICOTHE — The McClain Lady Tigers, again, won a game Monday night in dramatic fashion. Sophomore Morgan Dettwiller drove in fellow sophomore Cierra Landrum to end the game in the bottom of the ninth, for the Lady Tigers' second nine-inning win of the season. MHS won the game 5-4.

Vinton County struck first in the top of the third, as they plated three runs in the inning.

The Lady Tigers didn't answer until the bottom of the fourth when Jenna Perie led off with a walk. Perie moved to third on a double in the gap by Brittany Mullikin. Mullikin and Perie both were plated by a two-RBI double by Kate Crabtree.

Crabtree scored when Landrum reached base on a dropped third strike. Landrum stole second, and she was sacrificed to third base on a Sasha Lawwell bunt. Landrum scored on a ground out by Morgan Dettwiller.

Vinton County added one more run in the top of the sixth when they scored on a throwing error.

The game stayed tied until Landrum reached base, as she was hit by a pitch. Things got confusing when Sasha Lawwell laid down a sacrifice bunt that hit the tip of the plate and bounced into the catcher's glove. Lawwell stood still in the box, and the play froze. Landrum went to second and was called safe. Lawwell ran to first, where she was forced out, and Landrum moved to third. Morgan Dettwiller knocked a two-out change-up into right-centerfield, scoring Landrum in the bottom of the ninth.

Cierra Landrum (3-1) got the win as she went nine innings, giving up six hits, two walks and three earned runs. She struck out two batters.

Leading hitters for the Tigers were Landrum with two hits and Megan Dettwiller, Frankie Wise, Mullikin, Lawwell, Morgan Dettwiller and Crabtree with one hit each.

"Give credit to Vinton County, they played tough defense, and their pitcher kept us off balance," MHS Jarrod Haines said. "I was proud of our girls for hanging in there and doing what they had to do to win."[[In-content Ad]]
