West Memphis, Ark. shootout has Clinton County connection
News agencies are reporting local ties to a shootout in West Memphis, Ark., that left two police officers dead Thursday, including the son of the police chief, during a traffic stop along a busy cross-country interstate highway, The Associated Press has reported. A short time later, the suspects were shot and killed in a separate shootout, the AP reports.

Lynchburg Boy Scouts beautify HDH
On May 5, the Lynchburg Boy Scouts Troop 120 participated in a community project which involved planting flowers around the Emergency entrance signage in front of Highland District Hospital. Thanks to each of you who donated your time and talent to the landscaping at HDH.

Coss declares city ordinance unconstitutional
Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss has entered a decision granting a motion for summary judgment regarding the city of Hillsboro's civil suit with Parker Hotel owner Jack Hope. In the entry filed May 20, Coss said Hillsboro City Ordinance 150.05, regarding "dangerous buildings" is unconstitutional, in that it "denies citizens due process of law."

Culvert replacement begins on SR 247
CHILLICOTHE - Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation Highland County Highway Maintenance Facility will undertake a culvert replacement project on state Route 247 next month, requiring a weeklong closure of the route.

Freestore Foodbank delivers 5,000 pounds of goods to Fairfield community
Once again, the Freestore Foodbank delivered approximately 5,000 pounds of meat, dairy, canned goods, fresh vegetables, and bakery items to the Fairfield community on Friday, May 14, thanks to the generosity of the Leesburg Chapter #57 Order of the Eastern Star.
