Report: Brown Publishing bankruptcy hearing set for May 20

The Business Courier of Cincinnati (www.bizjournals.com) reports Tuesday, May 18 that "Brown Publishing Co. has proposed to a New York bankruptcy court that its assets be sold to a recently formed company owned by its CEO Roy Brown, general counsel Joel Dempsey, and CFO Joseph Ellingham."

Not everyone notices the recession
The state auditor has recently instructed the Scioto County commissioners to cut $1.4 million in spending. The county is in a fiscal emergency with a budget deficit of more than $3 million. Locally, the city of Hillsboro auditor projects a pending budget deficit of more than half a million dollars. If no action is taken, that number will surely inch closer to the $1 million mark – and soon. It ain’t politics; it’s arithmetics.
County may pursue $100,000 grant for airport repairs
Outgoing Highland County Economic Development Director Dan Cowdrey informed commissioners Wednesday of a $5,500 reimbursement from the Federal Aviation Administration, following an auditor’s report. Cowdrey suggested, and commissioners Gary Heaton, Tom Horst and Shane Wilkin agreed, that if it’s possible, they would like to use the funds toward a grant match that would qualify the county airport for $100,000.

He wasn't supposed to be on that flight. But, maybe he was meant to be on that flight. When U.S. Airways Flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson River on a cold morning in January 2009, all 155 passengers survived. The 155th passenger off that plane was Hillsboro native Dave Sanderson.
