2nd annual Memorial Day Weekend a cappella set for May 28

The a cappella singing will take place at the Highland County Fairgrounds at no cost. There will be no collections taken up. The first a cappella singing was a big success and enjoyed by more than 120 singers. Song leaders are especially encouraged to attend and welcome to lead any song of their choice.
Oberschlake graduates from basic military training

Princesses brave the elements for a royal day
They braved thunderstorms, floods and tornadoes but, luckily, the beautiful princesses arrived safely in town. On Saturday, May 22, five princesses rolled into Hillsboro in a grand carriage. The royalty included Snow White, Belle, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Prince Charming somehow got lost along the way, perhaps he refused to stop and ask for directions.
Collapsed culvert closes SR 134 in Highland County
State Route 134 in Highland County has been closed due to collapsed culvert. The route is closed at the 8.39-mile marker, between S.R. 131 and S.R. 286. The closure is in effect until further notice, and motorists are being detoured via S.R. 131 and S.R. 138.
Area routes affected by high water, debris
Crews in Highland County are also working on all routes there to assess damages and making necessary repairs. All routes in Highland County remain open; however, motorists will want to exercise caution when traveling through work zones.
National Weather Service: Reports of tornadoes in Highland County
   According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, reports have been received that tornadoes have touched down in southwestern Highland County, however those reports have not been confirmed.
The county had been under a tornado warning, but , according to the NWS, was cancelled at 7:45 p.m.

SR 251 culvert replacement on hold
With two culvert replacement projects on state Route 251 completed earlier this week, crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Brown County Highway Maintenance Facility will return to the route next week to wrap up their final project.
Commissioners hold public hearing June 14 on CDBG
The Highland County Board of Commissioners will hold the second public hearing for the FY10 Community Development Block Grant on June 14, 2010, at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners’ meeting room, 119 Governor Foraker Place, Hillsboro. The public meeting for June 2 is canceled.
