A motion to suppress was briefly discussed Wednesday in Highland County Common Pleas Court during a pretrial hearing in the case of former pastor Jim Blaine, accused of stealing more than $100,000 from a Greenfield area church.
 The defense is seeking to suppress a warrant used by the Highland County Sheriff's Office to obtain documents and computer files, as well as statements obtained during a Good Shepherd Church board meeting that was recorded by a state's witness.

After receiving 1,164 votes in the primary election, Jeff Griffith has withdrawn from the race for Highland County auditor.

A tentative agreement has been reached between Southern State Community College and the Southern State Education Association regarding faculty contract negotiations.

Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss has ruled that the city of Hillsboro must pay Jack Hope's attorney fees stemming from the litigation regarding Hope's property, the Parker Hotel. However, a dollar amount has not yet been determined.
 A hearing on the matter was held July 16, and in a motion filed June 9 by Hope's attorney Joseph L. Trauth Jr., "Hope is entitled to collect attorneys' fees because he asserted claimed that 1) Hillsboro violated Hope's state and federal constitutional rights by attempting to destroy Hope's private property pursuant to a city ordinance that was in conflict with the Ohio Revised Code and therefore invalid and 2) Hillsboro denied Hope his procedural right to due process rights as guaranteed by both the Ohio and United States Constitutions ... As a prevailing plaintiff in this case, Hope is entitled to recover his attorney's fees he expended to right the constitutional wrong committed by Hillsboro."

If Dodds wins the contest, he will have much more than $3,000 worth of tools; he will also win $30,000 worth of materials and labor and the help of Ty Pennington and the Sears Blue Crew to re-do the elementary school playground. "How cool would it be to have Ty Pennington come to Greenfield?" Dodds joked.

Emily Lynn Rickey was crowned the Wheels of Progress Queen Thursday in a pageant held at the Greenfield Church of Christ.
 Six area women competed for the title and crown. Rickey was also crowned Miss Congenialty, which Emcee Dan Long said was to award the contestant who had an outgoing personality, was helpful toward the other contestants, and exemplified a positive pageant spirit.
