George Spickard was born 1757 in Virginia. He enlisted in Capt. Richard Campbell’s Co. 8th Virginia Regiment in 1776. He served until Feb. 9, 1781 and was discharged at Valley Forge. He was in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown.

The Lynchburg Lions Club held its regular dinner meeting Jan. 19 at the Lions Club building in Lynchburg. The club heard presentations from District Gov. Rachelle Powers, First District Gov. Ben Dunn and Second Vice District Gov. Tony Winner.
Charles White applied for his pension on Oct. 28, 1833 at the age of 70 in Highland County. At that time, he stated that he was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia on Sept. 5, 1763 (tombstone inscription states 1761).
