Ohio State (32-2) beat Penn State, 71-60, Sunday and received the No. 1 overall seed in the 68-team NCAA Div.

The Whiteoak Wildcats were able to put together a rally, but not able to put together enough points to overcome a big run by the Manchester Greyhounds, Saturday in the Division IV SE District Finals. WHS came close at times to catching the Greyhounds but just couldn't get over the hump, falling to their Southern Hills League counterpart 63-48 at the Convocation Center, on the campus of Ohio University.

The Lions held the lead with 3:00 remaining in the Division IV SE District Final, but a series of events led to the South Webster Jeeps rolling away with the district championship, defeating the Lions 60-52 at the Convocation Center, in Athens on the campus of Ohio University.

Those were the words Fairfield boys basketball head coach Matt Carson said in a feature interview in 2007, before he even coached a scrimmage for the Fairfield Lions varsity program. Four years later the Lions are in the district finals.

The Whiteoak Wildcats and Manchester must have a quick turnaround this Saturday, as they have one day of preparation in between their district semifinal game and their championship game this Saturday at the Convocation Center in Athens.

The Lions (11-11), a No. 5 seed, will take on No. 2 seed South Webster on Saturday, March 12 with the district title on the line, along with a trip to the Division IV Regional tournament.

In the playoff game, Rogan took the very first play from scrimmage 55 yards straight through the middle of the WCH defense. The score was 8-0 almost before the Blue Lions got warmed up. Urbana totally dominated this game, winning by a score of 41-13. Washington’s fine season had come to an abrupt end.

Over a week has passed since the Whiteoak Wildcats and South Gallia have played in a basketball game, but this Thursday, at the Convocation Center, all that will change as the 'Cats and Rebels step onto the court Thursday night in Athens.
