Two Tigers race way to state meet

BYESVILLE — Members of the McClain Tigers are headed to Columbus, as two runners have earned a trip to Jesse Owens Stadium to compete in the 2011 State Track & Field meet.
Racing their way to the event were sophomore Felicity Peabody and junior Luis Rivas, as both will be running in their respective 400-meter dash events, this Friday at 3 and 3:10 p.m.
On Saturday at the Division II Regionals, Peabody ran a time of 1:01.29 for fourth place at the regional tournament in Byesville. Her preliminary time was 1:02.01 on Thursday.
Peabody reached the regionals by winning a district and South Central Ohio League championship. At the districts, Peabody ran a time of 1:00.78. In the SCOL meet, she won with a time of 1:01.40.
Rivas, a junior, was third in the regional meet with a time of 50.92, improving on his prelim time of 51.35. At the district meet, he ran a time of 50.18 for second place, and in the SCOLs, he won with a time of 50.24.
Also at the regionals, Hillsboro freshman Megan Overberg was seventh in the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.11. She reached the regional final with a prelim time of 1:01.65.
Hillsboro's Leah Pence, a junior, was sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.34, improving on her prelim time of 16.68.
In the girls 300m hurdles, Taylor Faulconer (MHS) was 12th with a prelim time of 50.73.
Peabody also ran in the 200m dash, but was seventh in the finals with a time of 27.17.
In the boys 4x400m relay, McClain's team of Rivas, Scott Balzer, Jordan Goble and Daniel White ran a time of 3:43.38 for 16th place.
Balzer, a senior, was fifth in the high jump with a height of 6-00.00.
McClain's Zach Matracia, a senior, was 12th in the 100m dash with a prelim time of 11.64.
