After allowing the North Adams Green Devils back into the game after leading by 12 points, the Fairfield Lions fought, scraped and battled until the final buzzer as they were victorious in their Southern Hills League opener, defeating the Green Devils 66-60 Friday night.

Highland County Flood Risk Information Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 4-7 p.m. in the large conference room at the Highland County Administration Building, 114 Governor Foraker Place, Hillsboro.

The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter will be hosting the annual Greg Wilkin Memorial Scholarship Basketball Tournament on December 28 and 29 at the Lynchburg-Clay High School Gymnasium.

The 1965-66 SCOL basketball season opened in mid-November with non-league competition.  Last season’s league basketball champions, the Circleville Tigers, began the season with a new head coach, Chuck Hill. Hill was formerly on the coaching staff at Mt. Vernon.

The gloomy weather this week serves as a reminder that winter weather is just around the corner. You have heard me often complain about shorter daylight hours during this time of year.  However, there is a bright side to the increased hours of darkness. It gives us a chance to admire the Christmas displays and lights in the area that serve to brighten up those long hours of darkness.  Christmas shopping ads remind us that the clock is ticking for purchasing those gifts for those special someones.
