The following is the Hillsboro Police Report for July 29, 2011.

A Hillsboro man indicted on a charge of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity was sentenced to community control Friday in Highland County Common Pleas Court.  
 Richard Rickman pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking in drugs in June.

A Batavia man charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide appeared Friday in Highland County Common Pleas Court.  
 Albert Schober was indicted in July on the two second-degree felony charges following a March 26 crash on state Route 73 in Washington Township that left two dead.

The city of Hillsboro has received a 60-day extension in their liability insurance coverage so they will have time to investigate bids they received for a future contract.
 The Hillsboro City Council met Wednesday in a special session to review and select one of four bids submitted on July 21. The current contract was set to be up Aug. 1. Council's finance committee analyzed and discussed the insurance bids for two hours prior to the council meeting, and the debate continued for more than an hour during the special session. A vote on the matter ended in a 3-3 tie.

The Highland County Board of Commissioners will accept letters of interest for an appointed position on the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities for the current term ending Dec. 31, 2014. Hillsboro City Auditor Gary Lewis has released the city’s regular audit for fiscal year 2010.

The Hillsboro City Council was not able to come to a decision on liability insurance bids after more than three hours of discussion and a 3-3 vote on the matter during a special session of council held Wednesday.
       The city's current liability insurance plan runs out on Aug. 1, and according to city officials, has not been put out for bid in 13 years. Because the city is unfamiliar with the process, council and administration members had many question on protocol and how to compare the individual bids.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today applauded a decision from the Commerce Department that will help protect candle industry jobs in Norwich and Leesburg against unfair competition from China.

The Greenfield Police Department is investigating a report of drug-related activity at a business parking lot on Jefferson Street.

A Highland County man who has previous convictions on unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and aggravated vehicular homicide pleaded guilty Wednesday to a bill of information on a charge of endangering children.

In Advisory Opinion 2011-07, the Commission determined that a public employee’s spouse can accompany the employee on work-related travel, provided that there is no additional cost to the public agency. The employee or his spouse must pay transportation, meal, and personal expenses for the spouse’s travel, and any extra costs incurred in connection with the spouse’s travel.
