May is a pretty special time of the year at our Agency – it’s Older Americans Month. It’s a time to celebrate the wonderful contributions given by so many older adults in our communities and express our gratitude for their years of positive influence and dedication to their families, friends and neighbors.  

The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association’s (OCA) Beef Exhibitor Show Total (BEST) program celebrated 25 years with the wrap-up of the 2023-24 BEST season on May 4 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus. 

The Hillsboro Woman’s Club’s May meeting program was presented by Highland County District Library staff. 

The annual Mowrystown community Memorial Day Parade and services will be held on May 27.

The District 13-OH6 Lions Convention was held April 26-27 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Blue Ash. This convention is for all the Lions clubs in southwestern Ohio. One of the most prestigious awards is the “Lion of the Year” award that is presented to one Lion in each Zone.

Highland County Democrats will welcome Charlie Brown, representing Senator Sherrod Brown, Tuesday, May 21, for an informal conversation with local residents to discuss issues affecting rural constituents. 

The District 13-OH6 Lions Convention was held recently in Blue Ash, where the Lynchburg Lions Club received several special awards in recognition of their community service and Lions promotion projects.

The annual Lynchburg Memorial Day services will be held Sunday, May 26, beginning at noon with a parade from the Old School Park to the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery, where ceremonies will be held.

The Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be holding their regularly scheduled monthly meeting May 21 at 6 p.m.

The Highland County Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual meeting and dinner on Thursday, May 9, at The Orpheum located in uptown Hillsboro. Over 250 guests attended the sold-out event “Our Bet Is On You” and enjoyed an evening of networking within the Highland County business community. 

The Bible Believers Baptist Church, located at 7011 Ervin Road, Hillsboro, will be having an old-fashioned tent revival from May 19-26.

Free airplane rides will be offered for kids age 8-17 during an event May 18 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Highland County Airport.

Measles is a highly contagious disease and has gained a lot of attention in the media lately. With confirmed cases getting closer and closer Highland County, the Highland County Health Department is working to educate community members about measles and prevention measures. 

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will host a Memorial Day service May 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Highland County Veterans Memorial at the Highland County Courthouse.
