SATH 'Cutie Pie,'
'Cutie Pet' contest
    SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) will once again
sponsor the "Cutie Pie" and "Cutie Pet" contest during the Highland County
Fair (Sept. 1-7).
    If you would like to enter your little "Cutie Pies" or your favorite
"Cutie Pet," all you need to do is submit a photograph of your child or pet,
along with a $2 registration fee, to "Cutie Pie Contest," P.O. Box 608,
Lynchburg, Ohio 45142. Please include the child's name, birth date, address
and phone number with your entry. You can also bring your photo and register
at the Cutie Pie Booth in the Wharton building during the fair.
    Contestants for Cutie Pie must be 1 day to 6 years old. Contestants must
submit photo no larger than a 4x6. Contestant's name, birth date, parent¹s
name, address and phone number and $2 registration fee must be attached with
each entry.
    Cutie Pet contestant name, owner¹s name, address and phone number must
be attached with the photo.
    Each contestant¹s picture will be on display in the "Cutie Pie & Cutie
Pet" Booth at the Highland County Fair. Anyone wanting to vote for their
favorite contestant can stop by the booth. Donations of a penny a vote will
be appreciated.
    All proceeds will benefit SATH, a nonprofit organization that assists in
providing funds for programs designed to assist children with disabilities
in achieving their full potential.
    The contestants who receive the most votes by Friday evening at 10 p.m.
will be awarded trophies. Prizes will be given to the top two boys and girls
in each age category and the top two pets on Saturday at the fair. The top
girl and boy in each category will be given a crown or tiara. Every entry
will receive a certificate and ribbon for entering. All photographs will be
returned after the fair.

Retired teachers
to meet Aug. 5
    The Highland County Retired Teachers Association (HCRTA) will meet
Monday, Aug. 5 at noon in the Hillsboro Church of Christ Fellowship Hall at
155 W. Walnut Street in Hillsboro.
    All retired educators are invited to attend the meeting. The meal will
feature a complete pork roast meal provided by members of the church, and
the cost is $14 per person.
    The program will be presented by Mr. Robin Rayfield, who is the director
of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He will update everyone on the
major issues facing the STRS Retirement Fund.
    The service project will be donations to the Soles for Students
program that provides shoes for needy Highland County students.

Humane Society
fundraiser Aug. 3
    Rev up your engines for a cause: The second annual Tour d'Lemon Car Show
is set for Saturday, Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hillsboro Rural
King. This year's event promises a day of family-friendly fun, remarkable
vehicles and a heartfelt mission to support the Highland Humane Society.
    The event is described as a non-traditional car show that welcomes any
and all car enthusiasts who wish to support the cause. A lemonade stand,
raffle, 50/50 and food truck, Tater Patch BBQ, will be set up during the
event. The Board of Directors from the Humane Society will decide on the
most unique entries and award trophies for first, second and third place.
Cars may register for a $10 donation.
    Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Humane Society,
supporting their efforts to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving homes for
animals in need. Last year, Tour d'Lemon raised over $900 for the cause, and
organizers are optimistic about surpassing that figure this year.

Walk to End 
Alzheimer's Sept. 28
    The Adams, Brown, Clinton and Highland County Walk to End Alzheimer¹s is
scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, beginning at the Highland County YMCA and
continuing through Liberty Park in Hillsboro. This event supports education
programs, support groups and continued research in the "ABCH" counties.
    Registration can be completed online at alz.org/walk or by texting
ALZWALK to 51555, or you may register onsite on the day of the event.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m., followed by an opening and promise garden
ceremony at 9:40 a.m. and then the walk beginning at 10 a.m.

HHS class of 1994
30-year reunion Aug. 3
    The Hillsboro High School class of 1994 will hold its 30th reunion from
6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 in the Alley 21 banquet room.

HCCAO golf outing Aug. 16
    The Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. will host their
18th annual golf outing on Friday, Aug. 16 at Buckeye Hills Country Club
located at 7261 Limes Road in Greenfield. Registration will open at 8 a.m.
They are just beginning to take reservations for teams and hole sponsors,
and there are plenty of opportunities for businesses to be represented at
the event as an event sponsor, corporate sponsor, team, hole or prize
sponsor.
    Shotgun scramble time is 9 a.m. Registration fees include the greens fee
for 18 holes of golf on the beautiful course, a cart and a lunch provided by
All Seasons Catering. Prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place
teams and most honest. Great door prizes are also going to be given away.
    Golfers who participate will also gain the satisfaction of knowing all
proceeds go back to the organization to help support those being served in
Highland County.

AmVets Post 61 events
    AmVets Post 61, located at Rocky Fork Lake, has announced the following
upcoming events:
    • Bingo on Thursday evenings;
    • Weekend breakfasts this summer;
    • Cookouts (steaks and pork chops) all summer; and
    • Various bands and entertainers this summer.
    A car show honoring POW/MIA soldiers will be held Aug. 10.

HCCAO Board meetings
    The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2024 on the following dates: Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 26 and
Dec. 24.

Brushcreek Township
Trustees' meetings
    The Board of Brushcreek Township Trustees, Highland County, will hold
their public meetings on the first and third Monday of each month for the
entirety of the year 2024. Meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Brushcreek
Township Fire Department, 7 N. Chestnut St., Sinking Spring.

HDH Board of
Governors meetings
    The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will meet in 2024 on
the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in the
Education Room, located on the first floor at Highland District Hospital.

Hillsboro meetings
    The City of Hillsboro has released the following revised 2024 meeting
schedule.
• City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the
month at 7 p.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: Aug.
15, Sept. 12, Oct. 17, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
• Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: Aug. 19, Sept. 16,
• The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
at 130 North High St. Scheduled dates are: Aug. 21 and Nov. 20.
• The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates are: Aug.
14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.

Senior food donations
    The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

Lynchburg Historical Society
    The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.

New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
    New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.

Peace Lutheran Church
    Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland
County Fair and has their meetings at the church. Call Peace Lutheran at
