Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound lists available dogs and puppies as of July 29

The Highland County Dog Pound has the following dogs available for adoption or rescue pulls as of July 29, listed courtesy of the Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound.

Transport date is Aug. 1.
 
(1) Tiny: Tiny was seized in a neglect situation. He came in super skinny and had a rash where they kept a diaper on him. Tiny came in weighing only 9 lbs. with ribs showing. He now weighs 13 lbs. and looks better than ever. His hair has grown back where his diaper rash was. Tiny has been fine with other dogs here at the dog pound. Very nice boy!

(2) Hopper: Hopper lives up to her name, as she loves to hop around outside and play. She is a very sweet girl with a lot of energy. She is likely around 1-2 years old and weighs 44 lbs. Intake date: 3/8/24.

(3) Diesel: Diesel is a pit mix who came to us as a stray. He is very friendly and loves to play and get loved on. He has done well with other dogs that we have had him around here at the pound, and he came in with a female. He is short and stocky, weighing around 45 lbs. Intake date: 4/29/24.

(4) Waylon: Waylon came in with 2 other pups and possibly a dad. He is approximately 7-8 months old and weighs 28-32 Ibs. He is friendly but shy and you have to just pet him and he will start loving you. He hasn't had much close people interactions but the more he gets the more he realizes we're not all bad humans. Intake date: 5/17/24.

(5) Natalie & Emily: Natalie and Emily came in with two other pups and possibly a dad. They are approximately 7-8 months old and weigh 23 and 28 lbs. They are friendly but are very shy and you have to just pet them and they will start loving on you. They haven't had much close people interactions, but the more they get, the more they realize we're not all bad humans. Please consider adding one to your family. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO THE SAME HOME. Intake date: 5/17/24.

(6) Clifford: Clifford, as in the big red dog, because that's exactly him. This big guy is possibly around 4 years old and weighs 75 lbs. Clifford is so friendly and loving. Not sure on the breed but possibly lab mix. All the black pups you will see also were brought in with him. This big guy seemed to do just fine when around another dog. Intake date: 5/17/24.

(7) Sally: Sally is a beagle who is around 10 years old. She weighs 28 lbs. and does fine with other dogs. Sally has a tumor of some sort on her underbelly. It is sensitive to touch, so she doesn't like to be picked up. Otherwise Sally is a very sweet old girl who just needs someone to give her a chance to not have to live the rest of her life in the shelter. We can help you with donations to help with vet costs to check her out.

(8) Abby: Abby is a Pit Mix who is around 3-4 years old and weighs 50 lbs. Abby is very lovable and would be fine with getting pets all the time. She likes to give hugs. Abby seems to be fine with other dogs. She seems like she wants to play. She is a sweetie. Intake date: 5/17/24.

(9) Turner: Turner is a pit bull who is 1-2 years old and weighs 63 lbs. This guy is so friendly and greets everyone with tail wags. All Turner wants to do is be loved, and that's hard due to his breed. Turner seems to do fine with other dogs here at the pound. Intake date: 5/16/24.

(10) Happy Feet: If you ever wanted to pull a pit bull, he is the one! Happy Feet got his name because when you go to his kennel door, he's so happy to see you and his front feet dance. He is around 2-3 years old and weighs a whopping 70 lbs. Happy Feet has been around other dogs here at the pound and seems to be fine with them. He doesn't really pay any attention to them. Intake date: 5/13/24.

(11) Scooby: Scooby is a mixed breed boy who weighs 68 lbs. Scooby is an owner surrender who is 3 years old and he is neutered. His previous owner says he has never been around cats. He has been around kids and would prefer older children. He has also been around dogs and would prefer medium-large dogs. Intake date: 1/8/24.

(12) Momma Dog: She is around 4-5 years old and weighs 29 lbs. Momma Dog has a very long story. She was first dumped off and tied to someone's fence. A neighbor decided to keep her and was not very responsible. She got pregnant and became very protective over her pups. Her owner at the time weaned her pups off at 4-5 weeks old, and another county humane society took them but wouldn't take Momma Dog as she was too protective over them. Her owner then decided to tie her to a Dumpster and leave her. Had the trash guys not seen and untied her, she wouldn't be here today. She is doing much better and is looking for her perfect home. All she wants is love! Intake date: 4/24/24.

(13) Dixie: Dixie is a hound mix who is around 3-4 years old and weighs 35 lbs. Dixie came to us as a stray. When arriving her neck was very raw and had a big cut in it like she had been caught in a fence. Her neck is healing nicely, and we are currently working on getting her to gain more weight. Dixie is such a sweetheart, and it seems that she would make a perfect companion for anyone. Out in the yard, she wants to stay close to you and she does well on a leash. Dixie also has been fine around other dogs.

(14) Dill: Dill is a mixed breed weighing 57lbs at 1-2 years old. Dill was found as a stray.

(15) Russ: Russ came to us as a stray that OSP picked up. He had a fencing collar on, but no owners ever came forward. Russ is an adult mixed breed weighing 55 lbs. He is very calm and seems to do fine with other dogs.

(16) Rocky: Rocky is a mixed breed, possibly heeler mix, who is around a year old and weighs 48 lbs. Rocky seems to pay no attention to other dogs. He is still young and would be great for an active family. Intake date: 5/17/24.

(17) Zeus: Zeus is a 4–5 year-old Dalmatian mix. He weighs 55 lbs. and is a very friendly dog. He is good with other dogs and good with people. Zeus can sit and shake. Zeus is quite the escape artist and when being in a kennel it will need to have a topper on it. Please don’t let that stop you from snatching this sweet boy though. You WON'T regret it.

(18) Turbo: Turbo is a Walker Coonhound who is around 6 years old and weighs 55 lbs. Turbo is very gentle but is very muscular and strong. Turbo has been fine with other dogs.

(19) Ghost: Ghost came to us as a stray. He is 1-2 years old and weighs 42 lbs. Ghost has been fine with other dogs as he is actually in a kennel with one due to our lack of space. We're not sure of his breed but maybe some Great Dane.

(20) Jasmine: Jasmine is a boxer mix who is around 4 years old and weighs 41 lbs. Jasmine seems to be fine with other dogs here at the pound. She seems like she just would love to play. Jasmine gets very excited to see people when they walk past her kennel. She is an absolute doll baby. Intake date: 4/29/24.

(21) Jimmy: Jimmy is a handsome boy that weighs around 60 lbs. Jimmy LOVES attention, and he will keep bugging you until you give it to him. He would do best in a home without other dogs. Intake date: 3/8/24.

(22) Zeppelin: Zeppelin is estimated to be 1-2 years old. He weighs 58 lbs. He loves to play with other dogs and has a ton of energy. He is a good boy. Intake date: 1/29/24.

 (23) Flopsy: Flopsy is a beautiful pit bull who is 2-3 years old and weighs 55 lbs. Flopsy got her name because when you go to pet her, she flops on the ground wanting all the belly rubs you will give her. She loves people and has a very loving personality. This sweet girl has never shown any type of aggression, and she seems to be OK with other dogs with a slow introduction. Intake date: 3/8/24.

(24) Panther: Panther is a 52 lb. male pit bull around the age of 3. He is not good with other dogs, but he has a great personality. Intake date: 10/18/23.

(25) Gabby: She so deserves a chance, she is too nice to have been here for so long. Gabby is a mixed breed sweetheart who weighs 60 lbs. and would be best in an only-dog home. She is very loving and gets so excited to see you she wants to give you kisses. A donor wishes to help with the cost of her spaying at your veterinary clinic. Intake date: 7/10/23.

(26) Milo: Milo is a husky that is estimated to be around 3-4 years old. He weighs 44 lbs. He does great with other dogs. He is a very sweet boy and seems to learn very quickly as long as he gets attention when he does something good. Intake date: 1/29/24.

(27) Champ: Champ is a pit mix who is 2-3 years old and weighs 48 lbs. He is a very pretty tan color with white on his chest. We don’t know what Champ had to go through before he came to the shelter, but we do know that he is not OK with any dogs and would be good for a home where he was the only dog. Intake date: 8/2/23.

(28) Hank: Hank was owner surrendered and we think he is a boxer mix and he weighs 78 lbs., and he is 8-9 years old. He is very loving to people, but he is not good with small dogs. With larger dogs, he would be fine. Intake date: 8/2/23.

(29) Oatis: Oatis is a sweet pit mix who is approximately 2-3 years old and he weighs 42 pounds. He seems to do fine with other dogs as he does not really pay attention to them. Intake date: 8/16/23.

(30) Jade: Jade is one of a kind with her beautiful one brown and one bright blue eye. She is a German Shepherd/husky mix who is estimated at 1-2 years old and weighs 53 lbs. From what we can tell, Jade does not like other dogs. Intake date: 8/2/23.

(31) Freddy: Freddy is an estimated 2-year-old lab mix that came to us as a stray. Freddy weighs 55 pounds. He seems to be fine with other dogs. He would benefit from spending some time walking on a leash. He loves the attention. Intake date: 11/2/23.

(32) Lily: Lily is pretty small, weighing 28 lbs. She seems to be young, around 6 months or so. She seems to be fine with other dogs. Lily has lots of energy and is ready for her forever home.

(33) Winston #2: Winston is approximately 4 years old and he weighs 48 lbs. He is a pit bull. He does great with other dogs and has a ton of energy. Intake date: 10/18/23.

(34) Winston #1: We think Winston might be a Lab mix. He is about 1-2 years old and weighs 46 lbs. He definitely has a lot of energy but is a sweet boy who loves people. He has been fine with other dogs. Intake date: 9/11/23.

(35) Tiger: Tiger is a mixed breed weighing 38 lbs. and around 1-2 years old. Tiger is a sweetheart and may not do well if he was the only dog because he likes dog friends.

(36) Benni: Benni came to us as a stray who we had to live trap. He is around 1-2 years old and only weighs 30 lbs. He is very friendly and will try to curl up next to you or try to climb on your lap. He can be scared and acts like his previous owners may not have been so nice. Please help Benni out so he can see there are nice humans out there.

(37) Rose: We think Rose may be a sister to Benni as they came from within one mile from each other. Rose is also around 1-2 years old and only weighs 23 lbs! She is also friendly once she gets to know you. She will need more work than Benni will.

(38) Luci: Luci was found as a stray by some kind people on July 3 who kept her safe for us until we could get her. Luci is a mastiff who is around 5-8 years old and weighs 110 lbs. She really is a gentle giant. She has no problem coming to you to get her pets in. Please help Luci get out of the shelter.

At this time, pull fees are being covered for all pulled dogs by donations from Friends Of The Highland County Dog Pound:

• $10 per adult, $20 per litter. $5 vaccine charge for each dog.
• Pull fees MUST be paid before transport or the dog will not be sent.

• Please PayPal vaccine fees to: poundpals@yahoo.com.

Vetting:
• We can take dogs to the vet as long as a credit card has been called in. If you would like us to vet a dog, please contact for further information.
• Heartworm tests can be done if asked for, but we must have rescue commitment before hand, and credit card has been called in as above for general vetting.
• Dogs are vaccinated for parvo and distemper upon intake and boosted.
