Organizers arrived several hours early to set up for Anna's Army Day, held on the courthouse lawn April 16.

April has certainly been eventful thus far for the avid sports fan. The college basketball season has wrapped up with Cinderella (Butler) coming up just short.  The professional baseball season is under way and I am looking forward to the upcoming NFL draft to see how the Bengals can improve.

The 1973-74 basketball season was just around the corner and all the South Central Ohio League schools were putting their teams through the paces, so they could, hopefully, open the young season on a positive note.

Is it sad that I have rules for eating at baseball games?
    I don't think so. In fact, I consider it a must when attending America's Pastime.
    With most sports, it really doesn't matter what is served at the venue, but with baseball, that is different for me.

Older Americans Month
    Each May is observed nationwide as Older Americans Month. Together with Senior Citizens Day (the third Tuesday in May – May 18 this year), Older Americans Month is a celebration of the contributions our older citizens have made to society, and is a chance for communities to give back and recognize the accomplishments of their elders. It also is a time to promote aging actively and encourage everyone, regardless of age, to live life to the fullest. Older Americans Month and Senior Citizens Day have a history dating back to 1977. Ohio’s theme for Older Americans Month 2010 is: “Age Strong! Live Long!” Today’s seniors are shrugging off traditional stereotypes. They are living healthy and active lives, engaged in multiple endeavors. They are employees and employers, students and teachers. They are volunteers, leaders and mentors. And, by being all these things, older Ohioans are supporting their communities and the state, and making a difference in the lives of others. They are celebrating their uniqueness and redefining what it means to grow old.

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) this week released the 2010 Congressional Pig Book, the group’s 20th anniversary exposé of pork-barrel spending. The Pig Book revealed 9,129 earmarks worth $16.5 billion.
