Jerry Tapp won for the men and Rosey Hootan won for the women during this past weekend’s second annual Colon Cancer Awareness 5k Run/Walk, organized by Adena Health System’s Endoscopy Service.

The event, which brought attention to the risks of colon cancer, was held at Yoctangee Park in Chillicothe. Cool weather kept attendance down, but

spirits were high, said Carolyn Wallin, who helped organize the event.

She and members of Adena’s Endoscopy Service were recognized earlier this year by EndoNurse magazine for their work at Adena, as well as their

initiative in launching last year’s first colon cancer run/walk.

Tapp, of Chillicothe, and Hootan, of Frankfort, both runners, were honored for crossing the finish line before any other competitors.

The event was sponsored by Sutherland’s Radiator Inc., Chillicothe Elks Lodge #52, Homes Surgical, Wissler & Myers Family Dentistry, LLC, Printex-Same Day Printing, Subway, Scioto Shoe Mart, Catering by Sheila Weathersbee, Ward Family Chiropractic, Dr. Ed Delgrosso, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Chillicothe, North South Produce and Sam’s Club.

(Adena Health System is an independent, not-for-profit and locally controlled healthcare organization serving the needs of 10 counties in south-central Ohio and employing more than 2,000 people.
