The Patri-Tots Learning Center at Southern State Community College’s North Campus in Wilmington didn’t just pass its recent state licensing inspection, it obtained a rating of 100 percent compliant. This follows the same perfect rating earned in 2009 by the Patri-Tots Learning Center at SSCC’s Central Campus in Hillsboro.

Get ready for spring quarter at Southern State Community College—online registration for continuing students begins Monday, Feb. 22, and in-person registration for new and continuing students begins Tuesday, Feb. 23. Classes will start Monday, March 29, and schedules are available at all campus locations as well as on the college’s web site, www.sscc.edu.

Marine Corps Pvt. Sammy R. Groves, son of Angela C. Groves of Hillsboro, Ohio, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Adena Greenfield Medical Center (AGMC) offers an inpatient CARF Accredited Rehabilitation unit that treats a wide variety of patients with conditions such as stroke, hip fractures, joint replacements, medical deconditioning, brain injuries, and cardiac surgery.  Today we will be reviewing the benefits of inpatient rehabilitation for patients that have recently had a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG).

At the annual RENT-2-OWN awards banquet held earlier this month, the Hillsboro team was awarded the top prize of their company’s Store of the Year.

Daniel Vance Walls, 45, of Bainbridge and Mark L. May, 51, of Peebles, have pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana from late 1997 through March 2008; and attempted possession with intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana on Oct. 17, 2004. They are the last of 38 defendants apprehended due to charges filed in a series of indictments beginning in Oct. 2004 through Feb. 2009, as part of a large-scale drug trafficking investigation in south central Ohio. All others apprehended as part of the investigation have pleaded guilty.

Highland District Hospital welcomes Amol Soin, M.D., a pain management specialist, to its Outpatient Specialist Services. Dr. Soin uses non-narcotic treatments and minimally invasive procedures for pain management. He also consults with patients and therapists at the hospital’s Center for Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine.

Although the brunt of the Presidents Day storm has passed through the region and road conditions continue to improve, crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 continued clearing the state highway system through the night.

The city of Greenfield Interim City Manager Betty Bishop and the Greenfield City Council are planning a "Light Up Greenfield" day, tentatively scheduled for Feb. 27. As city manager, Bishop wanted to come up with a plan that would help keep the city safe while allowing the town to get some positive publicity.

Due to inclement weather, The Southern Ohio Procurement Outreach Center has rescheduled its workshop on government contracting,  "Government Marketing 101: An Introduction to Government Procurement."

 Eighteen scenes of family life ranging from the comic to the serious are set in a central room in A.R. Gurney's "humorous and compassionate" play "The Dining Room," which Wilmington College Theatre will present Feb. 25, 26 and 27, at 7:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.

    The Greenfield History Club, celebrating its 86th year, met February 13th at the home of Kathleen McMullen. Following holiday-inspired refreshments, the meeting opened with members and guests reading the club's collect, written by Ferne Benner.  Kaye York-Longworth, president, relayed greetings from members currently in Florida, Dayton, and Kazakhstan.

All Highland County schools are closed Tuesday after the Presidents Day snowstorm. Many secondary roads remained snow covered early Tuesday morning.
