Sheriff Ron Ward announced the Ohio Department of Public Safety's (ODPS) Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) awarded $27,000 in federal traffic safety funding to the Highland County Sheriff's Office for the federal fiscal year 2012.

The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees’ regular meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, has been canceled.

Two Hillsboro women say that an apology is owed by Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink over comments he wrote in a letter to the editor of an area publication. Zink said that he is entitled to his opinion, and that he will not apologize.

The two candidates for Hillsboro mayor both say that community, and putting Hillsboro back on track to be a city that is prosperous, are the reasons they are seeking election on Nov. 8, and that strong leadership is needed in order to achieve the city's goals.
  Candidates Drew Hastings, a Republican, and John Levo, an Independent, were the featured speakers of the Hillsboro Area Chapter of the American Association of University Women's annual candidates forum, held Monday at Southern State Community College in Hillsboro.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY - WHIO AM1290 is reporting that a Hillsboro man was shot and killed Sunday night in Montgomery County.
  According to the radio station's website, the victim was shot while riding inside a car on Falmouth Ave.

A districtwide pavement marking is under way on various routes, and contractors will be striping routes throughout the eight-county region as weather permits. Throughout construction, traffic will be maintained in at least one lane and with the use of flaggers as needed. The scheduled completion date is October 31, 2011.
