Whiteoak Lady ’Cats gain SHAC win over Manchester; Boyd nets 33 points

It was a big night for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play, as they defeated the host Manchester Lady Greyhounds, 64-60 Thursday evening at MHS.
Though Whiteoak trailed 22-18 after the first quarter was finished, WHS won the second frame at 14-13 for a halftime score of 35-32 in favor of the host Lady Greyhounds.
The third quarter saw Manchester score 17 points, while Whiteoak had a 10-point frame, but the fourth quarter was where the Lady ’Cats broke away and gained the win as they had a 22-point effort in the final eight minutes, while holding Manchester to eight points for the four-point win.
Whiteoak had 33 points scored by Kyra Boyd, with the senior making 11 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and she finished 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Boyd also totaled eight rebounds (four offensive), three assists and she also had a block.
Jillian Lucas and Dinah Ames each finished with seven points. Lucas ended the game with two two 3-pointers, and she went 1-of-4 from the free-throw line. Ames totaled three two-point baskets and was 1-of-2 in her free-throw attempts, while also collecting two rebounds, one assist and five steals.
Ella Howard ended the game with six points by making one two-point field goal, one 3-pointer and she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Howard also had one assist and two steals. Aveah Captain totaled five points, off a two-pointer and 3-pointer, plus she collected two rebounds.
Libby Webster finished with three points off a 3-pointer, along with two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Taelyn Shriver scored two points and had one assist. Also for WHS, Chanel Captain scored one point and added three rebounds and one assist.
Team totals for Whiteoak included 17 two-point baskets, eight 3-pointers and they were 6-of-14 from the free-throw line. WHS also had totals that included 20 rebounds (eight offensive), 10 assists, 14 steals, four blocks and they had 19 turnovers.
Manchester was led in scoring by Maddie Easter with 18 points, Hayden Rideout with 17 points and Mahayla Brown with 11 points. Other MHS scoring included Maddi Curtis with eight points and Faith Scott with six points.
Totals for Manchester were 22 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers (Easter, Brown), and they were 10-of-17 from the free-throw line. MHS also had 35 rebounds (12 offensive), 11 assists, 13 steals and four blocks, plus they had 30 turnovers.
With the win, Whiteoak now stands at 2-1 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 3-1 overall. Manchester falls to 0-6 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 2-8 overall.
Next for WHS is a game scheduled for Monday, Dec. 29 on the road against Bethel-Tate in a non-conference game.
