Mustangs soccer closes ’25 season as district runners-up

KINNIKINNICK — The 2025 season for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs saw them finish as district runners-up for a second consecutive season, falling to the South Webster Jeeps in the Division V SE District Finals at Zane Trace High School by a 4-0 score. 

Last season in their district final runner-up finish the Mustangs also lost to South Webster, then by a 2-0 score, also at ZTHS. 

Saturday’s district final match saw the Jeeps — the No. 1 seed — score three goals in the first half, as the first goal was from Benaiah Andrews with 28:47 left on the clock for a 1-0 Jeeps lead. Next came a SWHS goal from Brycin McClintic with 25:52 left in the first half for a 2-0 lead. 

The Jeeps added a third goal in the first half off a direct kick from Hunter Banard for a three-goal advantage with 19:22 remaining on the first-half clock. 

In the second half, South Webster’s Carson Corriell scored their fourth goal of the match with 28:53 left in regulation for what was the final 4-0 score. 

The Mustangs did have success with positive play from sophomore keeper Tanner Roberts, who made some strong saves throughout the match, including a diving stop with 11:25 left in the first half and another stop with 3:15 remaining on the first-half clock. In the second half, Roberts had another couple big saves at the 34:00 mark and with 16:28 on the clock. 

For the Mustangs this season, Elam Faust and Quin Wells finished tied for the team lead in goals scored with 21 each, and both also had six assists to lead LCHS, tied for the most points with 48 each. 

Mason Fisher led the Mustangs this season with 10 assists, and the third LCHS player with double-figure totals in goals scored was Harley Lewis with 13.

Lynchburg-Clay seniors this season are: Elam Faust, Wyatt Osborn, Caden Boone and Mason McGinnis.

LCHS finishes the 2025 season with an overall record of 14-5-1 and a Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division I record of 6-2-0.
