McClain ends softball season in district first round at Waverly

The No. 9 seeded McClain Lady Tigers softball team saw their season end on Tuesday evening as they were defeated by the No. 8 seeded Waverly Lady Tigers, 10-0 in six innings in a Division IV SE District first-round game at Waverly High School. 

McClain (7-14) finished the game with three hits and two errors, as Amaya Ryan was 1-for-3, Cami Gall was 1-for-3 and Emma Marsh finished 1-for-1. 

The MHS Lady Tigers also had Kambriah Tomlin force a walk, Olivia Stegbauer also forced a walk, and Kyndee Williams walked once. 

Brie Cummins got on the bases on an infield error and then stole second base. 

Gall pitched five innings and had three strikeouts. Williams pitched 0.2 innings in relief. 

As for Waverly, they scored two runs in the bottom of the second, two more in the third, five in the fourth inning and added one final run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, WHS finished with 10 hits and two errors. 

Waverly was led by Lexi Smith (2-for-5, one run, one RBI), Ava Robertson (2-for-4, two runs),  Whitley Brown (2-for-2, three runs, two RBI, two walks) and Jo Colley (2-for-4, one RBI) with two hits each, as Colley and Brown each hit a double. 

WHS also had Hayden Jones go 1-for-2 with two runs and a walk, and Addi Hundell finished 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Kulan Huffman collected an RBI and a walk. Emma Nesser scored a run, had an RBI and walked once. Marley Gecowets walked twice. 

Smith was the winning pitcher, going six innings in the circle with no earned runs on three hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts. 

Seniors for the Lady Tigers are Olivia Stegbauer, Emma Marsh, Dalainey Goddard, Leah Lovett and Brie Cummins.

On Friday, May 8, the McCLain Lady Tigers played their regular-season finale on the road as they were defeated by the Clay Lady Panthers, 11-5 at Clay High School in Portsmouth. 

Clay scored two runs in the bottom of the second, then added two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and three runs in the bottom of the sixth. 

McClain ended with a run scored in the top of the fifth, one run in the sixth and three runs in the top of the seventh inning. 

For the game, the Lady Tigers totaled seven hits and five errors, while Clay had 13 hits and one error. 

Three Lady Tigers each had two hits with Brie Cummins going 2-for-3 with one run, two steals and a walk. 

Olivia Stegbauer was 2-for-4 with one run, two RBI and one of her hits was a triple. 

Emma Posey ended the game at 2-for-4 with one run, and two RBI. Kambriah Tomlin was 1-for-3 with one RBI and one walk. 

Leah Lovett collected one run, a HBP and a steal. Amaya Ryan was also hit by a pitch to reach the bases. Cami Gall finished with two walks, and Brylee Douglas scored a run, walked once and had a steal. 

Gall pitched three innings with three strikeouts. Kyndee Williams pitched three innings with two strikeouts.
