  • Annual Lynchburg Village Christmas will return Dec. 9-10

    The village of Lynchburg will host its 19th Annual Village Christmas this year on Dec. 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. both days.
  • Aglow International to meet Dec. 5
    The Hillsboro Chapter of Aglow International will hold their November/December joint meeting Monday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at 127 South West Street in Hillsboro (meeting location for this month only)
  • Democratic Christmas Dinner and Auction set for Dec. 6
    The Highland County Democratic Women and the Highland County Democratic Central and Executive Committee will hold their annual joint carry-in Christmas Dinner and Auction on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the County Administration Building.
  • Hillsboro Garden Club Christmas Party Dec. 12
    The Hillsboro Garden Club held its monthly meeting at the Floral Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 15. President Larry Moore called the meeting to order. All members recited The Pledge of Allegiance.
  • SATH to host annual 'Breakfast With Santa'
    The SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) organization will be sponsoring its 16th annual "Breakfast With Santa" on Saturday, Dec. 3 at its new location, the Hillsboro Elementary School Cafeteria.

    The Highland County Board of Elections will hold their monthly meeting Monday, Nov. 28 at 8 a.m. at the Board of Elections Office. This will also involve the official count from the Nov. 8 general election. The public is welcome to attend.

    Gary Smith of Lynchburg was the guest speaker at the November meeting of the Lynchburg Historical Society.
  • Three Arts Club holds November meeting
    The November meeting of the Lynchburg Three Arts Club was held at the country home of Rebecca Davidson.
  • Leesburg Library plans for holidays
    The Leesburg Library Merry Money Store will be open from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. Please bring your child and their Merry Money during your pre-assigned shopping time to purchase gifts. The elves will be here to assist your children with their Christmas shopping while parents can enjoy browsing the library and munching on some holiday refreshments.

    Strong winds could blow across from hillside to hillside, sounding like roaring freight trains, but never touch down in the valley.  The world could rock from political landslides, but the creek water would still flow and the deer would still glide like wisps of fog across the bottomland fields.
  • Christmas at the Cabin opened on Thanksgiving
    Janny Brizius reports that she is getting many call and inquiries to confirm that the Cabin will indeed be open on Thanksgiving afternoon/evening during the traditional  Thanksgiving day hours of 4-9 p.m.
  • Psalm 150, Hillsboro Church of God to perform at Colony Nov. 19
    Psalm 150 and the Hillsboro Church of God will be performing at the Colony Theatre this Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The admission for this concert is a new toy for a Highland County child at Christmas time.

    Paulena Covert, a Hillsboro resident and independent consultant with Tastefully Simple, Inc., is now a team manager with the national direct seller of delicious, easy-to-prepare foods.
  • Open Door Free Meal to resume in 2012
    There will not be an Open Door meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church in November or December.
  • Greenfield Historical Society hosts annual Tour of Homes Dec. 4
    Greenfield Historical Society will hold its annual Tour of Homes on Dec. 4. This year, the tour includes the Shorter Chapel AME Church as well as four homes. The homes range from a Victorian, a farmhouse, an 1800s brick and a modern barnhouse.
