Books donated to Hillsboro library

Shadow Roosa, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, donated several books on the American Civil War to the Highland County District Library.  The Sons of Confederate Veterans is the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers.  Membership is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces.  For information on the local chapter, call 937-402-8273.
Two arrested after robbery, car chase
On December 16, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. the Greenfield Police Department received a report that a green and silver 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck had been stolen from the parking lot behind the Greenfield VFW Hall, 214 Jefferson St.  The keys had been left in the vehicle according to the owner.

ODJFS urges Congress to take action to help unemployed Ohioans
Unless Congress acts in the coming days, tens of thousands of unemployed Ohioans will begin losing unemployment benefits each week, starting the week of Christmas and increasing week by week. An extension by Congress of the deadlines for the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program will ensure that Ohioans continue to receive these benefits uninterrupted.
Highland County/ OSU Extension eyes major budget reductions
In a letter dated Dec. 16 to Dr. Keith Smith, OSU Extension director, Brooker said, “It is with great concern that we write this letter regarding OSU Extension in our counties. The counties have supplied housing and paid for OSU Extension salaries for years. No input into the employee practices has ever been afforded to the supporting counties. Now, OSU Extension administration is asking for the counties to support OSU Extension at a level that we cannot afford..."

City Sidewalk Christmas a success
