On June 6, 1944, the land, air and sea forces of the Allied stormed the beaches of Normandy to dislodge German troops from the French coast and ultimately liberate western Europe. D-Day marked the beginning of the end of World War II. But it almost didn’t happen.

U.S. Senate Republicans finally passed their roughly $70 billion immigration enforcement funding bill after an 18-hour vote-a-rama that ended early Friday. The 52-47 final vote saw every Republican except holdout Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, supporting party-line the bill.

A man accused of assaulting a woman at a Hillsboro South High Street business – before running over another individual who tried to stop him – has been arrested by the Hillsboro Police Department, according to reports.

Kellie L. Wahl of Wilmington (Clinton Co.) has been appointed to the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees for a term beginning June 5, 2026, and ending May 11, 2032. Kelly D. Faas of Georgetown (Brown Co.) has been appointed to the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees for a term beginning June 5, 2026, and ending May 11, 2032.
