The Penn Township Board of Trustees will be contracting with the Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District in Leesburg for EMS services beginning at the end of June. The district will take over fire services in August.  
  According to Penn Township Trustee Daryl Bumgarner, the fire district had already been contracting with Penn Township for partial EMS coverage, "So we just contracted for them to take care of it all."

The Leesburg Lions Club will be sponsoring a 5k run and one-mile fun walk at the Leesburg Festival Saturday, June 18.

Ohio farmers stand to lose close to $1 billion in income from late planting of corn and soybeans this spring. Fortunately, Ohio farmers in general have had four consecutive good years leading up to 2011.

The Lynchburg Police Department will be hosting an open house on Saturday, June 18 from noon-2 p.m., LPD Sgt. Dustin Malone has announced. The event will be held at the Lynchburg Fire Department, located at 8123 S.R. 135 Lynchburg.

GREENFIELD - While current leadership in Greenfield hopes the process of converting from a city to a village will be a smooth process with little impact to area residents, there may be little continuity in the administration and council.

The Highland County Humane Society will host its annual yard sale Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11. Feel free to help make the event a success by looking in your attics, basements and garages for items you may wish to donate. (No adult clothing, please.) All proceeds go directly to benefit the animals at the shelter.
