    The Highland County Historical Society has announced many upcoming events for the holiday season to be held at the Highland House Museum, located at 151 East Main Street in Hillsboro. Museum director Margaret Van Frank is currently busy preparing the museum for its annual open house.

  • Local Eagles Club Hosts Poker Run to Benefit Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley
    Eagles riders of the Hillsboro, Ohio Eagles Club #1161 recently conducted a Poker Run with proceeds benefiting Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley. The Event was coordinated by Judy Roberts who has had firsthand experience with Hospice of Hope and the quality end-of life services that were provided to her mother.

    Farmers were finally blessed with a few consecutive days of nice weather last week that allowed them to make some progress with harvest. The good news is that the corn and soybean yields reported thus far have been excellent. The discouraging news is that we have a long way to go before harvest is completed.

  • Hillsboro Garden Club attends regional meeting
    The Hillsboro Garden Club traveled to Grace Community Church in Washington Court House for the Fall Region 16 Meeting on October 8, 2009 where the theme "Colonial Harvest" was hosted by Fayette County floral clubs.  The welcome was delivered by Linda Morgan, who gave some history on the church's structure and programs.  "Colonial Arrangements" was the morning program featuring Nathan Zurkowwitz & Julia Hidy. Some of their creations were Williamsburg fruit cones with lemons, apples, and pineapples; opened pumpkins as plant containers or floral arrangement bases; tiered pedestal dish featuring gourd and fall wreaths for thanksgiving/fall celebrations; and an urn with wet floral foam and fresh fall colored flowers arranged.  Janet Walker passing the gavel to new regional director Sue Hess was installed by Sharon Ware, 1st Vice President of Ohio Association of Garden Clubs.
