Southern State Community College will offer the one-day seminar “How to Supervise People and Lead a Team” from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday, April 14, in Room 403.02 of the college’s Central Campus, 100Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. A program fee of $129 will be assessed.

Highland Holiday Community Association (HHCA) is a homeowners community at Rocky Fork Lake committed to having a better community. The group members, as neighbors and homeowners, watch out for each other. The association is driven by the desire to help one another and the surrounding areas as well.

After a two-month winter break, the Hillsboro Garden Club returned to their monthly meeting schedule on Tuesday, March 22, with 22 members and associates in attendance with high hopes for the return of spring.

On Saturday, March 19, boys and girls from the Buford community took some time from their busy schedules, to provide assistance to an elderly resident.

Project Linus is a volunteer organization which contributes new handmade blankets to provide comfort and security to seriously ill and traumatized children. These blankets will be distributed to hospitals in Adams, Brown, and Highland counties when requested.

From time to time, I get calls from landowners interested in cutting timber, or they have been contacted by someone interested in buying their timber. Tim Wilson and Lee Crocker are with the Ohio Division of Forestry and can help with information about timber for our area.

Aaron K. Saunders, president of the Southern State Community College Respiratory Care Club, has announced the club is sponsoring the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis 10K walk/run, and bringing it to Washington C.H. this year.

Local author Saundra Akers will visit Southern State Community College 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in the Learning Resources Center on the college’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia. Admission to Southern State’s meet-the-author event is free and open to the public.

“Strike it big!” is the rallying cry for South Central Ohio Big Brothers Big Sisters’ 2011 Bowl for Kids’ Sake. The bowl-a-thon, slated for May 1 at Highland Lanes in Hillsboro, is one of two main fund-raising events the agency conducts each year.

The Ohio Watercolor Society’s 33rd annual touring exhibition will be on display April 4-27 at the Appalachian Gateway Center on Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia.

Highland County Recycling & Litter Prevention is announcing that Highland County has received grant funds from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention, to conduct a county-wide litter awareness campaign during the months of March, April and May.
