    Joel Harris and Cindy Diskete were united in marriage on March 12, 2011. The ceremony took place at Buford Church of Christ with Reverend Stoney Hamilton officiating.
  • Army Reserve Sgt. Lovett set to return to US
    Army Reserve Sgt. Scott M. Lovett is returning to the U.S. after a deployment to Iraq serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn, or Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and the Southwest Asia Theater of Operations.
  • SWCD accepting orders for tree seedlings
    There will be a variety of tree seedling packets offered on a first come, first serve basis so be sure to get your order in early. The pickup date will be April 8 at the Liberty Township building in Hillsboro.
  • Three Arts Club holds March meeting
    The March 8 meeting of the Lynchburg Three Arts Club was held at the home of Nancy Lippert. In the absence of the president, vice president Cathy Farcus opened the meeting by having Ellen Pennington and Doris Randolph read the club collect. The treasurer, Becky Davidson, and secretary, Carolyn Braley, gave their reports.

    On Feb. 27, the Premier Showmen 4-H Club held a meeting. During this meeting, the club nominated and voted for officers.

    With the current prices for corn and soybeans reaching outstanding prices, there are thoughts of adding acres to crops and possibly taking some land out of hay production.

    Senior Investment Club
        There will be an invitation to join a Senior Investment Club the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Morgan-Bodenhamer Senior Center, 185 Muntz Street, Hillsboro. This year’s officers are Hank Thompson, president; Carolyn Walker, secretary; and Norma Jane Morrow, treasurer.

    The Highland County Democratic Party will hold its Spring Dinner on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Highland County Administration Bldg. Basement Meeting Room with a carry-in dinner and auction.

  • Appalachian Artisans Guild to offer spring workshops
    Members of the Appalachian Artisans Guild are offering several workshops in Hillsboro on two Saturdays in April at the First Presbyterian Church. These events are in keeping with the guild's mission statement to preserve and promote the traditional skills of the Appalachian Region.
