I recently read an article in a newspaper that I know several people in southern Ohio have been subscribing to for years.  The paper comes from Columbia, Ky., but has always covered several things, including tobacco. For those of you who do not receive this paper, I think this article touches on some things that we have been hearing about and dealing with for a few years now.

Rob and Jeanette Ludwick of Hillsboro will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary at an open house on Saturday, March 5 from 1-3 p.m. at the Hillsboro Church of Christ. The couple were married on March 8, 1986 at the Hillsboro Church of Christ with Bob Hudson officiating.

A bowling tournament for the Highland County Special Olympics will be held from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at Highland Lanes in Hillsboro.

Paul Mitchell Salon in Hillsboro is announcing a prom dress drive for local students in need of a prom dress. The salon is asking for donations of dresses to be dropped off at the salon, located at 103 South West St. in Hillsboro, between Feb. 22 and March 18 during hours of operation.

The February meeting of the New Petersburg Social Civics Club met at Fall Creek Friends Church with hostess Glenna Ross.

Local musicians Chuck Day, Derek Current, Matt Kepler, and Eric Wilburn will be bringing their band Leroy to the VFW Ranch in Greenfield on Saturday, Feb. 26. Leroy will be one of nine bands playing in the Zombie Apocalypse Party.

Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. Friday and Saturday showtimes are 7:30 p.m.; Sunday’s matinee will begin at 3:30 p.m.

A Premier Designs Jewelry Open House to benefit the Belfast Boy Scout Troop 73 will be held Sunday, Feb. 20 from noon until 3 p.m. at the Belfast United Methodist Church.

The Overlook Retreat Banquet Center on Rocky Fork Lake will be hosting a bridal show March 19, 2011. The show is presented by Georgia’s Bridal and will include a fashion show.

I talked to a tobacco farmer this past weekend at the retirement reception for longtime OSU Extension secretary Sherry Rogers.

Crestwood Care Center sponsoring Valentine’s Party
    Thanks to our friends at Crestwood Care Center for sponsoring our Saturday, Feb. 12 Valentine dinner and dance party. The party starts at 5 p.m. with a delicious meal followed by dancing to the music of the New Sunshine Band, a Bid Euchre game, pool games and cornhole. Tickets are $5 in advance, $6 at the door.

The mother-daughter team Candee and Katie Basford will be the featured guests for a Meet-the-Artists event 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, in the Learning Resources Center (LRC) on Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
