A check for $20,000 has been presented by Adena Health System President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Shuter to Chillicothe officials. The money will be used to help open the municipal pool this year, without the need for additional taxpayer dollars.

Ohio's unemployment rate was 8.6 percent in April, down from 8.9 percent in March, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Ohio's nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 8,600 over the month, from the revised 5,087,900 in March to 5,096,500 in April.

With a number of retail electric suppliers now competing with Ohio's traditional electric providers, the Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel has developed a new fact sheet that allows residential customers to compare all of their available electric choices.

The Ohio Democratic Party’s Executive Committee has approved the Ohio delegate selection plan for the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC. Ohio Democrats will send 191 delegates to the convention, who will be selected in a process reflecting Democratic National Committee rules.

Southern State Community College and Shawnee State University are pleased to announce the beginning of a unique education partnership.

Columbus State Community College will avoid a tuition increase for the sixth consecutive year, according to a report this week by The Columbus Dispatch. The report cited the college's increase in enrollment and optimistic budget outlook as reasons to maintain tuition at 2006 levels.

For two Hillsboro women, giving support and compassion to community members has become a passion, as they try to raise funds and awareness for a disease that has afflicted their family.

"Individuals are carrying weapons illegally right now," said Rep. Danny Bubp (R., West Union), a former Marine. "What this bill does is allow ... anyone who's got a concealed-carry permit to be able to carry in there and be able to protect themselves and their family."

Judge Rocky Coss is honored to announce that the Ohio Supreme Court will conduct its fall off-site session of the Court on Oct. 19 in the Common Pleas Courtroom in the Highland County Courthouse, the oldest courthouse in continuous use in the State of Ohio, having been completed in 1834.
