Ohio community college holds line on tuition

Columbus State Community College will avoid a tuition increase for the sixth consecutive year, according to a report this week by The Columbus Dispatch.

The report cited the college's increase in enrollment and optimistic budget outlook as reasons to maintain tuition at 2006 levels.

If the proposal by Columbus State President David Harrison is approved at the Columbus State Community College Board of Trustees' May 26 meeting, the tuition freeze would run through summer 2012, the Dispatch said.

In 2009, the Columbus State Board of Trustees approved a 3.5-percent tuition hike, but has never enacted the increase.

According to the report, Columbus State Community College is the only public college in Ohio that has held tuition flat for more than five years.

Columbus State Community College has grown from an initial enrollment of 67 students in 1963, to its current campus of more than 30,000 students.

Columbus State's Career & Technical Programs division offers two-year career programs in more than 55 areas of business, health, public service, human service, and engineering technologies. Students can also take the first two years of their bachelor's degree through CSCC's College of Arts and Science, then transfer to a four-year college.[[In-content Ad]]
