Whiteoak High School’s commitment to service and student leadership was on full display this past week as members of the boys’ basketball program partnered with the Village of Mowrystown for a hands-on community improvement effort.
Under the guidance of junior varsity boys basketball coach and physical education teacher Mr. Cole Schaefer, a group of student-athletes spent the day working alongside village representatives to complete upgrades at the local firehouse. The project was coordinated in partnership with Mrs. Becky Allen, who played an important role in organizing the effort and supporting the students throughout the day.
The students devoted their time and energy to revitalizing key areas of the firehouse, including stripping old paint from the facility’s sign and repainting several exterior doors. The project offered valuable opportunities for teamwork, responsibility, pride in their community, and service to others.
Mrs. Allen praised both the students and their coach for their professionalism, noting the care, focus, and meticulous attention to detail they demonstrated. She also expressed her appreciation for Mr. Schaefer’s leadership and the respectful, hardworking manner in which the young men represented Whiteoak High School.
This collaborative effort strongly supports Bright Local Schools’ strategic plan and mission, which emphasizes community engagement, student development, and meaningful real-world learning experiences. By working directly with local partners, students grow not only as learners, but also as contributing members of the Wildcat community.
At Bright Local Schools, we are deeply grateful for our partnership with the Village of Mowrystown and for the opportunity to serve alongside community members dedicated to the wellbeing of others. Projects like this strengthen the bond between school and community, reinforcing the shared commitment to supporting our students and enhancing the village we call home.
We extend sincere thanks to Mrs. Becky Allen, the Mowrystown leadership team, and our Whiteoak students for their efforts. We look forward to many more opportunities to work together on future projects that help our community continue to shine.
