Wilmington College's graduate program in occupational therapy places a focus on preparing professionals to serve rural communities. Its mission came to life again with this summer's Therapeutic Riding Camp, which offered one of the enduring symbols of rural life — horseback riding — to area children with disabilities.

Wilmington College named Earlham School of Religion graduate Noah Kellum as its next campus minister following a national search. He will succeed Nancy McCormick, who retired in June after serving the campus community for 10 years in that capacity.

The transformation of the former BrightFarms facility into the Wilmington College AgriScience Complex received significant support in Ohio’s newly approved capital budget. Gov. Mike DeWine signed House Bill 2 earlier this month, which includes $650,000 earmarked for Wilmington College under the area designated for improving education infrastructure across Ohio.

Wilmington College/Community Summer Theatre will present the musical, “Xanadu,” with four performances on July 16, 17 and 18, at 7:30 p.m., and July 19, at 2 30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre in WC’s Boyd Cultural Arts Center.

Brian Snowden pays heed to the legend of Grandma Moses, who took up artistic painting later in life. Upon his retirement as a business professor at Wilmington College in 2022, he decided to explore something new. Impressed with abstract art, he decided to give it a try.

Wilmington College students entering its STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields of data science, math education, agronomy and health science stand to benefit greatly from a $150,000 Choose Ohio First grant awarded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The grants, for students entering the College in fall 2027, are designed to grow enrollment in these STEM fields over four years.

One in four older adults experiences a fall each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Wilmington College’s Erin Bales will facilitate Stepping On, a free program designed to help senior citizens reduce the risk of injury from falls, on May 28, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Aging Up Community Center, 717 N. Nelson St., in Wilmington.

Wilmington College President Corey Cockerill looks back to Christmas in 2011 when her sister, Erin Balbier, gave her a domino-shaped object, colorfully hand-painted with a cartoonish robot. That was her first bot — short for robot. Specifically, it was a Bilingual YesBot. Cockerill quickly became intrigued with bots, not just the whimsical figures on the JoyBots, LoveBots, GratitudeBots and PeaceBots, but their intrinsic messages centered on connection, delight and creative courage as represented by BotJoy, the global art movement ushered in by Gary Hirsch, WC’s 2026 Commencement speaker.

Gary Hirsch told the Class of 2026 to become improvisers, since uncertainty in life is inevitable. He offered some sage advice as a career improviser on navigating uncertainty with intention and grace. An artist, author and creative leader, Hirsch presented an interactive keynote address at Saturday, May 9’s Wilmington College’s 150th Commencement titled “Radical Collaboration with the World Around You.”
