Two trucks loaded with more than 400 boxes rolled into the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office Wednesday. In those boxes were 710,000 signatures abortions rights advocates say prove they have the support they need to bring a ballot measure asking voters to put abortion care in the Ohio Constitution.

In a demonstration of overwhelming grassroots support, Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights, the nonpartisan umbrella organization that is leading the effort to enshrine reproductive rights and abortion access in the Ohio Constitution, Wednesday submitted the signatures required to place The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety Amendment on the 2023 General Election ballot to the Ohio Secretary of State.

The Ohio Supreme Court has heard from a wide variety of medical groups and an association for social workers, all of whom support a continued injunction on Ohio’s six-week abortion ban law.

Less than two weeks until the deadline, Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights is saying abortion right advocates will get the signatures needed to put a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine abortion rights in the Ohio Constitution.

Outside interests flooded into an Ohio lawsuit against the state’s six-week abortion ban, in the form of 18 other states filing a “friend of the court” brief supporting Ohio’s abortion ban law.

Amidst an Ohio Supreme Court case on whether to allow the state to appeal a pause in Ohio’s six-week abortion ban, the state’s attorneys also explained their stance on the ban itself and the challengers to it.
