Lady Mustangs have 3-point loss vs. Peebles

Facing Southern Hills Athletic Conference foe on Monday (Dec. 8), the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs lost on the road against the Peebles Lady Indians by just three points at 48-45 at Peebles High School.
Lynchburg-Clay held a 14-12 lead at the conclusion of the opening quarter, but the second quarter went to Peebles, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 10-5 for a halftime deficit for LCHS at 22-19. Peebles also won the third quarter at 19-11 for a 41-30 score after three frames. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Mustangs made a rally but were a few points short, falling by three points as they outscored PHS in the final frame at 15-7.
Lily Ferguson led Lynchburg-Clay with 23 points, making six two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and she was 5-of-7 in her free-throw attempts. Ferguson also added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Madison McMullen totaled eight points against Peebles, making two 3-pointers, one two-point basket, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Savannah Bell followed with six points off three baskets and added three rebounds, two assists and three steals, plus she took a charge.
Ava McLaughlin followed with four points off two baskets, along with two rebounds. Addy Carraher scored four points with a two-pointer and she was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Carraher also had three rebounds and one assist. Joslyn Rockey finished with five rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.
Peebles was led in scoring by both Alyssa Smalley and Kendall Myers. Smalley scored 16 points, while adding one rebound, two assists, three steals and one block. Myers in her 16-point game also had eight rebounds, one assist and three steals.
Paysen Shiveley scored 10 points for Peebles, as she also had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Amryn Carroll finished with four points and four rebounds. Teammate Rayna Beckham scored two points and added four rebounds. Kendall Alonso collected four rebounds and one steal.
Team totals for Peebles were 11 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers, and they were 8-of-16 from the free-throw line. They also had 28 rebounds (12 offensive), five assists, nine steals and one block, plus they had 20 turnovers.
Lynchburg-Clay’s team totals were 13 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, 7-of-12 from the free-throw line, 24 rebounds (11 offensive), 12 assists, nine steals and two blocks, plus they had 18 turnovers.
The loss sends LCHS to a SHAC Division I record of 1-2 and an overall record of 1-4. Peebles improved to 2-1 in the SHAC Division II standings and 2-2 overall.
