Potpourri

Three months until Christmas. As I put the date on this column, I realized it is just three months until Christmas.  

I remember as a boy, counting down until Christmas, but we usually didn’t start until the Sears Christmas Catalog came, around Nov. 1.

Now, it is serious, folks.

For the last several cycles, we have been saying this is the most serious election ever. We can say it again this time.  

The Democrats have managed to gather all sorts of characters under their tent, all not good for the overall health of the country. Democratic Socialists, Muslims, Abolitionist Movement (seeks to replace or substantially dismantle existing systems of policing, prisons and incarceration), Green New Deal activists, and anti-capitalists activists.  

There are a plethora of other groups crowding under the Democrat tent, too, such as transgender-rights activists, immigration advocacy groups and pro-Palestinian activists.

Many of these groups want to destroy America as we know it.  

I have spent 76 years listening to groups such as these tell us what is wrong with America.  

The main thing I have seen wrong that extended into today’s timeframe is the “Jim Crow” South, which the Democrats themselves initiated after the Civil War and perpetuated up until the 1960s. Don’t act as if this was not a Democrat-led movement.

Again, this election is serious. We don’t need a lot of changes, just some tweaks here and there.  

In the history of the world, there has been no other country that has treated more people fairly than this one. We have done this to the tune of incurring $40 trillion in debt in the last 40 years. If anything, we are way too magnanimous. 

There is a special community around Sugar Tree Ridge that treats me far better than I deserve. So far this year, I have received two batches of cookies from them.  

Then, last Saturday, I received a chocolate cake mix, a store-bought can of frosting and a $10 bill to buy ice cream.  

Laura made the cake, put the frosting on it, added ice cream and we ate it. I have to admit, it was not as good as the homemade cake with homemade freshly cranked ice cream on the porch at one of the many houses where I have had it at Sugar Tree Ridge, but it was a delightful and humbling gift. Thank you.
