Hillsboro gains wins at home against Chillicothe, on road at Waverly

The Hillsboro Indians earned another home victory in Frontier Athletic Conference play, this time on Friday night (Dec. 15) defeating the Chillicothe Cavaliers by 24 points, winning by a score 68-44. 

The Indians were led on the scoreboard by Jack Howland with 22 points, as the freshman made three 3-pointers, five two-point field goals, and he was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Tate Davis followed with 16 points, as the junior collected three 3-pointers, two two-point buckets, and he was also 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Brayden Hunter totaled 13 points in the win, as he sank two 3-pointers, three two-point baskets, and he was 1-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

Also for the Indians, Steven Kibler totaled nine points, Dorian Stewart added seven points and Mason Dumpert scored one point. Kibler finished with four two-point baskets and a free throw, while Stewart totaled three two-point baskets,and a made free throw.

As a team the Hillsboro club finished with 17 two-point baskets, eight 3-pointers, and they were 10-of-15 from the free-throw line. As a team, the Indians also had six turnovers.

Getting to that aforementioned scoring, the Indians led the Cavs 14-8 after the first quarter, and following a 21-17 second quarter in favor of HHS, it was the Indians leading the Cavaliers, 35-25 at halftime. 

In the second half, the Indians outscored CHS 16-8 in the third quarter and 17-11 in the fourth quarter for the FAC win. 

Chillicothe was led in scoring by Daniel Scissum with 12 points, and as a team the Cavaliers totaled 17 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. CHS committed 10 turnovers.

The Hillsboro Indians passed a road test on Saturday night (Dec. 16), winning in non-conference action against the Waverly Tigers at the Downtown Waverly Gym by a 44-26 score. 

Hillsboro held a 10-point lead at the end of the opening quarter at 13-3, a quarter where Steven Kibler scored six points, Tate Davis had four points and Dorian Stewart added three points. 

HHS was outscored by Waverly 7-4 in the second quarter with Davis and Stewart each scoring two points in the frame, as Hillsboro led 17-10 at halftime. 

After halftime, the Indians outscored Waverly 11-5 in the third quarter, where in that frame the Indians had two 3-pointers from Jack Howland, two points from Davis, Kibler with two points and a point scored by Hunter.

In the fourth quarter, Hillsboro scored 16 points and Waverly scored 11 points for HHS to seal the non-conference win. That fourth frame included Howland with nine points (one 3-pointer), a 3-pointer by Davis and two points each from Stewart and Brady Juillerat.

HHS was led in scoring by Howland with 15 points, as he totaled three 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and he was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. 

Davis followed with 11 points for HHS. Kibler totaled eight points, and Stewart finished with seven points. The rest of the final scoring for HHS included Juillerat with two points and Hunter with one point. 

As a team, the Indians had 11 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 10-of-14 from the free-throw line. HHS also committed 15 turnovers. 

Waverly was led by Sawyer Myers with eight points. As a team, the Waverly Tigers committed nine turnovers. 

The two games from Friday and Saturday leave the Indians with an overall record of 4-1, with a FAC record of 2-1.
