Mustangs cost Fayetteville gold ball with SHAC win

Though the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs weren’t able to defend their SHAC streak of winning at least a share of a conference championship for the past 12 seasons this year, they did play somewhat of a spoiler on Saturday as they defeated the Fayetteville Rockets, 3-0, costing the Rockets their perfect SHAC season.

Though the Mustangs’ 12-season streak of a share of SHAC championships ended this season, they did play some of their best soccer when it mattered most in the regular-season finale as they prepare for the upcoming postseason.

LCHS shut out the Rockets at Lynchburg-Clay High School with a strong performance at keeper by Tanner Roberts, who totaled three saves in the match.

On offense, Lynchburg-Clay had two goals by Harley Lewis and one goal from Quin Wells. Assists were credited to Elam Faust and Mason Fisher.

The Mustangs end the SHAC season at 6-2-0, and overall they are 12-4-1. Fayetteville and North Adams tied for the SHAC championship with each having a 7-1-0 record in conference games.
