Going on the road and away from McClain Field for Week 5, the McClain Tigers lost to the host Williamsburg Wildcats 46-13 in McClain’s final non-conference game of the ’25 season.

One of McClain’s positives was the play of sophomore quarterback Hudson Lovett, as he finished with 111 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Williamsburg (5-0) was first to score with a 2-yard touchdown run by Troy Harris. They failed on the 2-point try as McClain’s Kamden Penwell made the stop of the attempt, leaving the Wildcats ahead 6-0 with 3:39 left in the first quarter.

McClain (3-2) answered by taking the lead on their second offensive drive of the game. The Tigers had positive plays on the drive, including a pass from Lovett to Jordan Bell for a 5-yard gain. Later, a personal foul on Williamsburg kept the drive alive for McClain, and the Tigers continued with a pass from Lovett to Leland Bond to inside the 20-yard line.

Next was an 18-yard touchdown run by Lovett for six points with 1:12 left in the first quarter on first down. The PAT kick by Bentley Marsh left McClain in the lead at 7-6.

Williamsburg scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive as Zayne Walker scored a second-and-1 play with a 1-yard rush to the end zone with 10:12 left in the second quarter. The failed 2-point conversion left Williamsburg in front at 12-7.

After a McClain punt, Williamsburg was back in the end zone for a third time when Gray Robinson scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run with 6:02 left in the second quarter. Harris caught a pass to convert the 2-point conversion try for a 20-7 WHS lead, completing an 83-yard drive.

The McClain Tigers had to punt on their ensuing drive and it was blocked, giving the ball to Williamsburg at the WHS 37-yard line. The Wildcats put together another scoring drive, ending with an 85-yard rush by Harris with 1:51 left in the second quarter. Andrew Roeder stopped the 2-point conversion attempt by the Wildcats, leaving the score 26-7 in favor of the host Williamsburg team.

WIth the Tigers trailing 26-7 at halftime, Williamsburg received the ball first to start the second half, and five plays later they added to their lead with a goal line run by Walker with 9:31 on the third-quarter clock. The 2-point conversion attempt failed, putting the Wildcats ahead of McClain by a 32-7 score.

McClain scored their final touchdown with 8:35 left in the third when Lovett rushed for a 9-yard run to the end zone. The PAT was no good for a 32-13 Williamsburg lead.

Williamsburg added to their lead with a touchdown run by Landon Hittle with 4:12 left in the third. Cash Smith caught a 2-point conversion pass for a 40-13 lead for Williamsburg.
The final touchdown of the game came with 11:57 left in the fourth quarter when Carson Tenhunfeld rushed for a touchdown on second-and-goal. Hunter Peabody knocked down the 2-point conversion attempt for a 46-13 lead.

The Tigers now stand at 3-2 overall, while Williamsburg improves to 5-0 overall. Next for McClain is a Frontier Athletic Conference opener in Week 6 on Friday, Sept. 26 when they host the Washington Blue Lions at 7 p.m. at McClain Field for homecoming.
