Tigers lose on road at Chillicothe

In a Frontier Athletic Conference game on Tuesday night (Jan. 20), the McClain Tigers lost to the host Chillicothe Cavaliers, 61-27 at Chillicothe High School.
As the Tigers continue to build their program with a young roster, it was the veteran Chillicothe squad that controlled the pace of the game with 23 points in the first quarter and 18 points in the second frame. McClain had a tough two-point first quarter, but responded with a better quarter in the scoring column in the second frame with 13 points.
In the second half, the Cavaliers added 18 points in the third quarter and two points in the fourth frame. McClain in the second half had three points in the third and nine points in the fourth.
Leiland Bond finished the game with six points to lead MHS against the tough Chillicothe team, as he had two two-point buckets and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Hudson Lovett finished with five points for the Tigers, sinking a 3-pointer in the second frame, plus going 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Connor Chandler ended the game with four points off two baskets, and totaling three points each were Jordan Bell (a 3-pointer) and Gavin Anderson (one two-point basket, 1-of-1 FT-line). Finishing with two points each were Brady Binegar, Matthew Cummins and Ethan Fryer, as each made one basket from the field.
The Tigers totaled eight two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 5-of-7 from the free-throw line (71-percent).
As for the Cavaliers, they were led by Cooper Stoneking with 26 points as he made five two-pointers, five 3-pointers and was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Andrew Hamman finished with 15 points for the Cavs with one 3-pointer, five two-point baskets and a 2-of-3 night from the free-throw line.
The rest of Chillicothe's final scoring included: Caydon Cox (7), Karter Williams (6), Noah Netter (5) and Ka’von Pleasant (2). The Cavs totaled 17 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers (Stoneking 5, Hamman 1, Cox 1), and they went 6-of-10 from the free-throw line.
CHS also added 26 rebounds (10 offensive), 16 assists and 13 steals.
Following the game Tuesday, the Tigers have a record of 5-8 overall (0-6 in the FAC). Chillicothe moved to 9-3 overall (4-2 in the FAC).
