Tigers fall in FAC road game to Miami Trace

The McClain Tigers traveled to Fayette County Monday evening (May 5), where they fell to the host Miami Trace Panthers 6-3 in a Frontier Athletic Conference contest.

The Tigers allowed just two earned runs of the six scored against them, as they committed four errors and had seven hits. Miami Trace finished with eight hits and one error. 

Miami Trace led 2-0 after scoring those runs in the bottom of the first, then it was the Tigers tying the score with a run in the top of the second and another run in the top of the third. 

The Panthers regained the lead in the bottom of the third with two more runs, and after each team scored a run in the fourth inning, the scoreboard saw MTHS leading the Tigers 5-3. In the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers scored one final run for their six total runs. 

McClain had seven players with one hit each. Hunter Peabody went 1-for-2 with one run and a walk. Carson Chandler finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Easton Ary was also 1-for-3 with a double as he scored a run. 

Eli Douglas also was 1-for-3 with a run and two steals. Kamden Penwell finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Matthew Cummins was 1-for-3, and Brycden Whitley was 1-for-1 as his hit was a double. Connor Chandler forced a walk for the Tigers.

Ary pitched five innings for McClain, where he allowed just two earned runs and had four strikeouts. Carson Chandler pitched one inning, allowing no runs. 

For Miami Trace, Gage Bowers was 2-for-4 with two runs, a steal and a double. Also with two hits for the Panthers was Austin Brown at 2-for-3 with an RBI, a steal and a walk. 

Gavyn Maynard was the winning pitcher, as he went seven innings, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts. 

The win moves Miami Trace to 7-2 in the FAC (12-4 overall) for second place, one game back of the conference-leading Jackson Ironmen (8-1, 16-3) with one FAC game left on the schedule. McClain is third place in the FAC at 4-5 with an overall record of 12-8.
