GREENFIELD — The McClain varsity boys soccer team played the Chillicothe Cavaliers for the second time in four days, and after shutting them out 3-0 Saturday in Chillicothe had to battle to come away with a 1-1 tie in Greenfield Tuesday evening.

The win Saturday over the Cavaliers was just the second time for McClain boys soccer to defeat them since they came into the FAC

“Last year we lost to Chillicothe both times, so to pick up a win and a draw against them this year is pretty good,” McClain head coach John Gill said.

McClain scored the only goal of the opening half on a shot by sophomore Janson Allison at the 13:18 mark.

“Janson Allison who is just a sophomore has decided to be a scorer for us this year. He has a spark inside him that just wants to find the back of the net. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for him.”

Neither team was able to do much offensively in the first half due mainly to some great defense and superb goal-keeper play by both squads.

McClain’s goalie Eyan Hill turned away several close-in shots by the Cavaliers the entire game.

Chillicothe tied the game with the only goal of the second half on a shot by junior Henry Byrd at the 25:58 mark.

“It was an unfortunate goal to give up but when the officials make a call, it stands and they can’t take it back,” Gill said. 'We thought we had plenty of chances to score down the stretch, and I thought Chillicothe was sound defensively too tonight, really both teams were pretty good on defense tonight.

“I’m pretty satisfied with this result tonight even though we didn’t win. I think playing them to a draw tonight and beating them down there is still a really big improvement from last year.”

The Tigers will play at home Thursday, Oct. 1 for a non-league game against Whiteoak starting at 7 p.m.
