The McClain Tigers had a tough task in front of them on Friday night, as they were on the road and at Jackson High School, where they lost their Frontier Athletic Conference game to the host Jackson Ironmen by a 48-6 score.
The first kickoff of the game saw Jackson reach the end zone with Wes Clagg taking the kickoff 50 yards for the score. Following the PAT, the Ironmen led McClain, 7-0 eight seconds into the game.
McClain’s first offensive possession saw their opponent force a punt following a third down sack. The punt went from the 5-yard line to the 17-yard line of McClain, and JHS took advantage of the field position.
With 10:38 on the clock, Jackson quarterback Bodhi Wolford passed to Eli Ray for a 17-yard touchdown on first-and-10. Thatcher Brown’s PAT was good, and JHS led 14-0 less than two minutes into the game.
McClain had some positivity on their next offensive drive as they had a 2-yard run by Jordan Bell, followed with another 2-yard rush by Bell. On third-and-6, Hudson Lovett passed to Hunter Peabody for a 7-yard gain and a first down.
Later in the drive on second-and-10, Lovett found Gavin Anderson for an 11-yard completion. A 12-yard pass by Lovett got the Tigers to the 35-yard line of Jackson, but eventually they had to punt.
The Tigers’ defense stepped up and forced a punt as well on the ensuing drive.
With the first quarter ending with McClain trailing 14-0, the Tigers had possession of the ball and had a positive-yardage play as Lovett passed to Eli Douglas for a 13-yard completion. That was followed with a Bell catch of three yards, and on the next play Lovett had a 2-yard run.
On fourth-and-9, the Tigers scored a touchdown, completing the drive with a Lovett pass to Holden Lyons for the 18-yard score. The 2-point conversion failed, but with 9:40 left in the second quarter, MHS scored their touchdown and cut the JHS lead to 14-6.
The Ironmen took a 21-6 lead with 8:57 left in the second when Wolford passed to Ryan Seimetz for an 8-yard touchdown. Following Brown’s PAT, the Tigers trailed by 15 points.
After an MHS punt, the Ironmen struck again, this time with a 23-yard pass from Wolford to Charlie Woodard with 6:10 left on the second-quarter clock. The PAT was no good, putting JHS ahead at 27-6.
Jackson’s next score was a touchdown run by Wolford with 3:19 left in the second. Following the PAT, Jackson led 34-6.
Jackson added another first-half touchdown, this time a 50-yard run by Dayton Kallner on a first-and-10 play with 1:13 on the second-quarter clock. The PAT sailed through the uprights for a 41-6 Ironmen advantage.
Jackson added another score in the third quarter with 1:16 on the scoreboard as Gavin Sites rushed for a 73-yard touchdown. Tanner Jenkins kicked the PAT this time for JHS, putting the Ironmen ahead 48-6.
The win improves Jackson to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the FAC. McClain now stands at 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the FAC.
