Pryor scores 4 goals as McClain defeats Logan Elm

GREENFIELD — The McClain girls varsity soccer team bounced back nicely after a season-opening loss to Unioto by defeating Logan Elm 6-1 Tuesday night on the Lady Tigers’ home field.
Senior Paisley Pryor not only registered the hat trick (three goals) in the opening half, but added her fourth goal in the second half to lead McClain to victory.
Pryor scored three goals in the opening half, plus freshman Lyndi Cockerill and senior Larah Henson each added one each to stake the Lady Tigers to a 5-1 halftime advantage.
Logan Elm’s only score in the match came on a free kick midway in the first half.
McClain completely controlled the match both offensively and defensively for the entire 80 minutes.
MHS first-year freshman keeper Mia Wagner also turned in a solid performance at the net, allowing the lone Lady Braves goal on the free kick at the 20:44 mark of the opening half.
“This was a good win,” McClain head coach Blain Bergstrom said. “In the first half, we scored and got up early, were moving the ball well, attacking down hill and making some good shots. We were up 5-1 at halftime and really dominating the game but then seemed to lay off the gas a little bit.
“So, this was a little learning experience and we need to continue to learn every time out on the field,” continued Bergstrom. "All my girls played well tonight, and I was able to get everyone in the game and that’s always a good thing.
“We’re hoping to keep improving and competing at a high level and just wanting to get better every day because our league is going to be really tough again this year.”
The Lady Tigers (1-1) will travel to Zane Trace on Thursday, Aug. 20 with a 5 p.m. start time.
