McClain baseball ends season in district semifinals

The Division IV SE District Semifinals saw the No. 5 seeded McClain Tigers have their season end against the No. 4 seeded Gallia Academy Blue Devils by a 5-2 score on Saturday at Ohio University's Wren Stadium in Athens.
The Tigers led 1-0 after the first inning, but Gallia Academy tied the score with a run in the bottom of the second. Neither team scored runs in the third or fourth innings, but Gallia Academy took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run inning for a 5-1 lead.
McClain (13-13) scored their final run in the top of the sixth inning.
The Tigers’ run in the first inning came when Carson Chandler hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Connor Chandler from third base.
McClain’s second run of the game came when Kolton Lamb singled to centerfield, plating Connor Chandler in the top of the sixth.
MHS finished the game with seven hits and one error, while Gallia Academy had 10 hits and one error.
Connor Chandler finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a double. Eli Douglas went 2-for-3.
Peabody was 1-for-3, Lamb went 1-for-2 with one RBI, and teammate Kamden Penwell was 1-for-3. Carson Chandler had a sacrifice fly and a walk.
Connor Chandler pitched six innings where he finished with eight strikeouts in the loss.
Gallia Academy saw Maddux Delaney go 3-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and a double. Nathan Shockey finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and a double.
GAHS also had one hit each from Jaxon Myers (1-for-3, one walk, one steal), Beckett Camden (1-for-2, one run, two steals), Logen Drummond (1-for-4, one run, one steal), Colton Reed (1-for-3, one RBI, one steal) and David Champlin (1-for-1).
The Tigers end the season at 13-13 overall.
Seniors for McClain are Eli Douglas, Carson Chandler and Easton Ary.
