A strong three-day showing by Shawnee State senior golfer Erika Martin allowed the senior from Greenfield, Ohio to claim a fantastic showing inside the top 10 following the third and final day of the River States Conference Championships Tuesday for the eight women's golf programs that competed for the conference crown in 2024 — with Martin's three-day score of 255 placing the senior inside the top 10 and allowing the lead golfer to pick up Second-Team All-RSC accolades as a result.
Martin, who sat in a tie for 12th place entering the final day of competition after posting rounds of 85 and 87 to begin the River States Conference Championships, posted her lowest round of the three-day tournament and matched the fourth-lowest Day 3 round overall by posting an 83, allowing the multi-year letterwinner to shoot up the leaderboard to seventh place at the end of Tuesday's festivities.
In advancing five spots from Day 2 to Day 3, Martin made the second-highest climb on the player leaderboard, with only Saint Mary-of-the-Woods' Brooke Bussing, who jumped from 18th to 12th on the final day of action, making a further climb up the ladder. Martin birdied the 171-yard par three third hole twice and notched 21 pars over the 54-hole tournament.
Martin finished the 2023-24 season posting six consecutive rounds in the 80s with her three-day performance at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W. Va. She finished in the top-10 in the field in each of the four tournaments that she played in during the Spring 2024 semester, notching finishes of fifth, 10th, ninth and seventh to round out the year.
Behind Martin, Aly Wellman also shot her lowest round of the three-day tournament, holding 30th in the field, while Cali Baird's 32nd and Maggie Siley's 36th place finishes rounded out the efforts for the Shawnee State women's golf program in 2023-24.
The women's golf program at Shawnee State also had four individuals named to the Academic All-River States Conference team from a women's golf standpoint Tuesday. Baird, Alaina Collins, Erika Martin and Raevin Mitchell were all named to the unit, while Baird was among eight individuals named to the River States Conference's Champions of Character list as announced by conference officials following the conclusion of the three-day River States Conference Tournament, held at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W. Va.
Martin, a McClain graduate, holds a 3.43 GPA with 140 hours of academic credit in marketing,
